and remember if you're really talking about speed, looks dont matter. hell that's why i bought my srt-4. if it's faster than anything in it's market but looks like ******, i'd get it for the performance. also i like the new civic si hatch but not the sedan. it looks pretty snazzy and it is still pretty fun to drive. like said before if you guys are really worried about performance for cheap, go out and buy a 91 CRX with a swap and be done.

Can you still buy an SRT-4 brand new? If not, this discussion is about a new car, not used cars.

Actually kind of interesting. I prefer the reliability and refinement of Honda & Toyota in this segment but I'll admit to being interested enough to take a test drive.

I put on 100 miles per day though; so mileage @ 26mpg Hwy is a buzz kill for me.

Well, they did make up for the torque with a very high redline and so you can drive around above 6000rpm easily, which I think is the goal they were going for.

With a car like this, the point is to keep it revving high, not be going around town at 1500 rpm because you have a v8 or v6 with more torque.

Absolutely.

The Mazdaspeed3 starts just under $23K. Honda would be wise to price this around $20-21K. Otherwise, your in the territory of a faster, better looking vehicle.

that bit with the discrepancies in the dyno charts is interesting. it would have made things more clear if they had just included the data and given and explanation.
