Hmmm, typically an LX is rear drum....let's see if Rockauto holds the answer.

Well, if a 2012 Civic LX has drum brakes, I'm going to go out on a limb and say the 2007 does too😉

so the front is pads? and the back in drum brakes? where the heck do i get drum brakes from?

Brake shoes are easy to find. Any parts store will have them. Chances are though, they won't need replacing yet. They tend to wear VERY slowly unless something is amiss with them.

And yes, disc brakes up front.

35k shouldn't necessitate a rotor change unless you're really hard on them. Hell, in my book 35k is too early to even worry about brakes period!

iirc, only the EX and the Si have rear disc. All the others have rear drum, as you said.

Is there a reason you're wanting to change the brakes? Do they feel weird? Does the level on the brake fluid reservoir say you're getting low (indicating the brakes are worn)? Any squeaky noises?

yeah i just talked to a tech and u are right. LX comes with drums. sucks.

i'm hearing heavy squeaky noises in the front. have not checked brake fluid res yet. i am illiterate when it comes to working on cars. i will have to re-evaluate my stance on hondas. :|

ok i think i will do this. what about rotors? maybe i should change all 4 now too? 35K miles

Unless rotor is in really bad condition, you don't have to worry about them either. They should last forever (at least more than 35k miles) as well.

Squeaky noises are obvious sign of pads gone. Just change the front pads and see how they work out. If noise remains, you may have bigger issue like brake line, but I doubt.

Rear drum is adequate for economy car like Civic anyway. Pad setup is obviously better, but drum setup is not that bad either when your car doesn't require heavy braking.

Just changed the brakes on my Lx 2007 and it took 10 mins a wheel. It was also my first time doing it. I even did it in my apt complex's parking lot 😀

Fucking love this car.

You mean you changed the PADS on the front. There is no way in hell you will do drums in 10 minutes.....even if you were a brake specialist.

damn, i was going to pay $100 to have a shop replace the front pads, but if you can do it...must not be that hard

It's just like oil change. If you know what you are doing, it is easy enough to fall asleep while you are working on it. If you don't know what you are doing, you will end up blow up the engine (lol).

Oh well. It's not like the car needs brakes on all of the wheels stop. On my bicycle, 100% of the braking is on the back 😉

lol, true. But so does engine oil 😛 Engine won't immediately blow up even if there is no oil, but it may eventually. You will be able to stop without pads installed correctly, but you may kiss the wall eventually.

It "may"?

Hahahah...

+1 on front only.
The rear shoes on my 1996 Saturn which I just sold were original. 150K miles.
Front brakes are cake. Lube the slider pins always. (sil glyde is great)

I don't know if the 07 has the same calipers as the 08 but the 08 require a special tool to push the pistons back in so you can squeeze the pads in. You have to turn the piston while it's being pushed back in.

That is only for the EX and SI rear disk pads. The front I just used a C-Clamp and the old pad to push the piston back.

Alfa Did you open the bleeder at all? I have to do my wife's civic soon. Its an ex and I had a faulty rear caliper which is why I thought they all were the spin type piston.
