Ever notice how people these days have no friggin clue how much the average car weighs? Any average family sedan is going to be sitting around 3,500 pounds. Add another thousand pounds for trucks/SUVs. And even at those weights, we're talking about the lightest of the light for everyday cars.
Sure, there are some sports cars out there that are still featherweights, but the simple fact is that any car with a decent amount of luxury and convenience features will be coming in at 3,500 pounds at best. All these new, cool gizmos that everyone wants add weight, lots and lots of weight.
Cars today are heavier than that "behemoths" of the 1950's, 60's, and 70's because of all the features that we're demanding and all the safety additions that have been made. Even though the individual parts are lighter, there are so many more parts required that the cars themselves are heavier.

You're never buying a practical car then... They way things are today, you might, MIGHT, be able to sneak a Civic or similar compact/subcompact car in at under 3,200 pounds, but any mid-sized sedan will be well heavier.Originally posted by: acemcmac
My current car (which happens to be a mustang) is 3200lbs and I would NEVER consider a car heavier unless it was an awd turbovan. Ever. Quote me.

And I'm wondering if perhaps you have one of those wonderful Mustang II "Mustangs" since even the Fox body 'Stangs were pushing 3,300 pounds (NHTSA shows the 1992 Mustang Convertible at over 3,400 pounds, so the coupe was probably about 100 pounds lighter). The late-model coupe was just barely under 3,400 pounds. And the 1960's Mustangs also hovered around 3,400 pounds depending on options.

It is supposedly going to cost in the neighborhood of $45K MSRP....but dealers will surely screw that all up with their greedy behavior.
I'd actually consider it a good deal at 45k
I wonder if this one has live axle too....

The base Mustang is around 20k and you think this is going to cost 50? MSRP will be low, production will also be low so expect large dealer markups and I doubt you will get it for even MSRP.
The last mustang GTR cost 65.....

A brand new roush mustang costs nearly that much.
Ah, I'm thinking V8's only. You're right that the 4-cylinder cars would have been much lighter.Originally posted by: Black88GTA
Well....I know my old 92 Fox came in at almost exactly 3,000 lbs curb weight - in fact, I seem to remember it being a bit under that. Haven't looked at it in a while. Mine was one of the lightest ones they produced though - it was a 4 cylinder LX notchback coupe.Originally posted by: Zenmervolt

My brother had a 1994 V6 Mustang that weighed in somewhere between 3300-3400 lbs IIRC.
