its funny how Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, the two actresses in that fashion movie Devil Wears Prada, fell in the Worst Dressed Category. 😛

Anyway, don't know what was wrong with how Anne dressed, she still looked beautiful

I agree that The Departed wasn't the best of those nominated. I think Sunshine, actually, should have won ahead of that.
Are you serious?
Sunshine wasn't a bad movie, but IMO it never should've been nominated for best picture.
There were way too many better movies this year.

Am I alone here or was 2006 a year of mediocrity? I saw The Departed and thought it was merely average at best. It lacked character development and I felt no connection whatsoever to the characters. Babel tried too hard to be one of those movies that throws out seemingly random events that all coalesce in the end. I didn't see LMS or the other ones nominated so I can't comment on them.

The last exceptional movie I have seen was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which did win for best screenplay.

Goddamn...Diane Keaton looks hot as well. What's up with all these 50+ year old hot women.

50 doesn't have to mean fat and frumpy you know.

 for the production of this years awards show. Its an excellent production and very classy imo.

I really enjoyed all the "shadow" performances, as well as the special effects choir and the Jack Black and Will Ferrell performance so far. Seinfeld rocked.

that special effects choir was cool.

wow, you guys are jaded....I thought I was the bitter movie critic.

Scorsese should have won for Raging Bull...oh well. I thought The Departed was damn good, but never saw Infernal Affairs. Was it really that good, or are the guys here that sing its praises Asian film freaks....the type that think John Woo is any good? If so, that's not a recommendation I can trust 😛

Anywho, I didn't think the films that were up were really that bad this year. The Oscars will never get all of the best stuff out there, but it's been better than previous years (rem Titanic Winning; Braveheart winning in a year of ****** movies)

I think I missed 6 pics from the Oscar ballot at my local video store (here's hoping for 10 free rentals....). Only surprise for me was Babel not winning for picture, and lesbian beating out Beyonce for song 🙂

Scorsese should have won for Raging Bull... I agree!

Pan's Labyrinth

Pan's Labyrinth was weak, largely due to an unfocused screenplay. It never decided which story it was trying to tell. I picked the "Lives of Others" to beat it out--and it did.
I haven't seen "The Prestige" though.

"Little Miss Sunshine" was unique. It wasn't its popularity that got the nomination, it was a nod to classic filmmaking which we don't see these days: simple story with classic tropes yet modern character-types. It was easily the best screenplay among its competition. The acting was stellar, and there was nothing about the directing or editing to distract from its well-conceived story.

American filmmakers have yet to release a better film since then, IMO.

woot! I just learned that my oscar pics won me 10 free rentals at the video store around the corner! I also get a special prize...I hope it comes in a box marked "Fragile'" (In Italian, of course 😉)
