So there have already been a few threads about individual coaches leaving/getting fired but I couldn't find one that covered them all, just to lower the amount of threads made (since there is going to be a lot of changes this year). Feel free to add any that I may have missed.

Joe Novak - Northern Illinois
Jeff Bower - Southern Miss
Sonny Lubick - Colorado State
Phil Bennett - SMU
Art Briles - Houston
Karl Dorrell - UCLA
Paul Johnson - Navy
Rich Rodriguez - West Virginia
June Jones - Hawaii

Jobs to Fill:

West Virginia - Bill Stewart

Texas A&M - Mike Sherman (Texans OC, Former A&M Assistant)
Arkansas - Bobby Petrino
Georgia Tech - Paul Johnson
Baylor - Art Briles
Washington State - Paul Wuff

*edit* i just noticed ESPN put up a coaching changes table on their site a little after i made this post, lol. link

Wow. Nutt to Ole Miss? Didn't see that one coming. I was thinking maybe something like Nebraska or Colorado State or something. A definite step-up from YawYaw Orgeron though.

There's some rumors flying around that Coach Will Muschamp may be on the GT list. I don't think that will go far b/c of Muschamp playing at Jawja.

Texas A&M is going to regret hiring Sherman.

Why? He was a good college and pro coach. He has a track record and has credibility when it comes to telling kids what it takes to make it in both college and the NFL. He'll recruit very strongly in TX because of this. He is very respected whereever he has been, and has plenty of head coaching experience. He has experience with TAMU and the state of TX. He fits in with the culture of A&M, which means he should be around for more than a few seasons. This should mean stability for the school instead of dealing with the coaching carousel every few years. What is the downside?

Nutt had two choices presented to him.

Baylor and Ole Miss...

Id take Ole Miss too...

Singletary declined the Baylor job because the Baylor AD basically doesnt care if Baylor excels at football or not.

GT should really just hire Tenuta before someone else does. He's been their only real asset over the last 6 years.

One of my co-workers lives down the street from Tenuta. Tenuta gives the impression that he has no desire to be a head coach but my co-worker thinks otherwise. Tenuta will get his choice of jobs as a defensive coordinator regardless though.

Its easy to say that after he left. Arkansas and its alumni wanted him gone.

Why is it that everyone knocks Texas Tech, but at the same time our head coach is on the short list of people various ADs are contacting?

UCLA(Dorrells days a numbered), Ole Miss(before Nutt), Arkansas, etc.

I hope he doesnt bolt. If he does it won't be about money, hes already paid more than most coaches(more than Nutt was being paid at Ark or Dorrell at UCLA). It'll be about winning a championship.

easy to say it before he left too since they offered him an extension. arkansas and it's alumni are morons.

it's simple. people want to run the spread offense now. leach can run it. people knock tech because even with his offense they can't win more than 8 or 9 games in a season. not to mention they can never recruit a half-capable defense. if he was at ucla he could recruit the players needed to make a complete college team.

Last time I was in Texas, it was right before the A&M and Tech game. One of the Austin sports talk shows said that when Tech recruits, they turn all of the good defensive players into offensive players.

What's amusing is this "new" spread offense is really just a variation of the old wishbone. Another couple of years coaches & teams will be back to smashmouth power running because defenses will have shifted to smaller, speedier guys to defend the spread. 🙂

variation of the wishbone? maybe it is for teams like west virginia that use it to run different versions of the option, but for most teams it's not much like the wishbone at all. if teams ever go back to power running, it will be decades because every team these days is recruiting mobile quarterbacks with less than great passing ability. teams may be getting more speed on defense, but the best teams aren't letting defensive strength suffer too badly, because every position is getting bigger. you have linebackers nearly as big as linemen but faster, and safeties as big as linebackers.
