Option three: Subaru 2.5i. A bit more expensice than both, but well worth it for the extra power and AWD.

I got my 2004 Sentra SE-R Spec V w/ 26k miles a couple months ago for 13,700 + tax (2.5L 175hp/180lb-ft at 4500rpm). A totally different beast than the one you're looking at and still the same price. So far I love mine. If you're willing to go used you'll get a much more powerful car for the same price.

Recently, I've test driven the 350z and the sentra (both manual), and the shifter had a lot of vibrations that made the car feel flaky and cheap, which is normal for Nissan but highly abnormal for other manual transmission cars I've driven (Toyota and Honda). Perhaps I was just unlucky enough to test drive the only 2 cars that had that problem on the lot. If anyone else had the same experience or owns a manual transmission Nissan, please chime in. Until then, I'm staying away from anything Nissan and their possible transmission problems.

BTW, why test drive a 350Z and a Sentra? Odd combo.

At first blush, that doesn't seem too bad.
If I had to buy new at this price point, I would go with a Civic, I suppose.

The Sentra is so f*^king old now. It's probably one of the oldest small car platforms on the road. Just get a Civic and be done with it.

Faster, safer (airbags out the ying yang), larger, more fuel efficient, better interior, better build quality, better resale value...I could go on and on.

The Sentra shouldn't even make your top 5 list.

How is the station wagon holding up?


The wife hated the civic, I didn't care for the look either.


The Subaru seems like a good option but I don't have a local dealer.

Basic chassis design from early 90's? That 1.8 has been around in various forms since the 80's as well. Solid beam rear axle?

And as, you mentioned, the B15 chassis/design has been around since 2000 or so.

Im not sure if there are still incentives on the Mazda6 but I grabbed mine for 16K otd.

IMO the Mazda6 is a much more refined car than the Sentra even at base. Its powered by a 160hp 2.3L engine and has much more room. Also from what I've seen, these sentras dont hold their value very well.

lol, that's right, the sentra uses junk ass nonindependent rear suspension. Ghetto.

My mom has a Sentra. It's not a bad car, and I wouldn't mind having it if it was paid off. She got the 1.8 with an auto, it's a 2000 or 01. Nothing remarkable about it, but nothing terribly bad either.

I never got to drive it alot, so I don't know how the milage is. It's got decent pickup for a little car as well. Although it did start to develop a couple rattles on interior pieces.

I had an old Sentra and it survived hell and everything else that I put it through. If I was looking for a small car, I'd definitely go for the model you're looking at.
