Hey, didn't you get the memo, that's powerful! 😛

Out of 197 hp...dunno

what are the 0-60 times on this hyped car..

bunch o honda fan boys on here

guess never thought they were that great...styling is always lackluster...drab...

jC

It's a Honda Civic. What the hell do you people expect with this car?

Another person who has no clue what their talking about. What do you expect for $20 thousand dollars? Perhaps a car that will spank anything else in its class, and on the right track, would hold with a cars that have much more power. Thats significant to me, and to absolutely everyone whos driven it. Just pic up any car magazine, everyone is raving about this car and with good reason

Calm down Honda boy, I was asking him why the hell would he be complaining about torque on a Civic.

Where did he mention torque?

Nice try with the edit, which isn't much better:

I thought you were commenting on RiDe's comments

You're quoting RiDe, dumbass.

Sorry, chunkee's second comments on hp and 0-60 times. I must have missed the original quote about torque

If you want a one...I have a pretty good idea on how to get one at MSRP.

No you don't 😉
I just helped a get co-worker a Civic Hybrid for under MSRP in SoCal. Yeah, I don't have any idea😉

But that was a hybrid, why don't you go to a dealer and ask about an Si then get back to me. Maybe things are different in Cali then the rest of the country but I doubt it. I almost guarentee that there will not be a single dealership in your area with an Si other then the floor model they have for showing off. Their sold before they even get to the dealer, and around here there is about a 3 month wait if you get on the list now
In SoCal you absolutely cannot get a hybrid for MSRP. Same difference.

Your missing my point entirely. You go to a dealership in SoCal and there are hybrids on the lot right? So because the car is there, you at least have something to argue with assuming you know what your doing. You can also go through fleet sales, and get one that way as long as their available.

Si's aren't available. You won't see any at the dealership when you arrive, so even if you know what to say or how to say it - or even go through the fleet sales services like I actually tried doing, your not going to get one at MSRP. Why? Because they have a waiting list already of people who WILL buy them over MSRP, so why should they sell to you - or even the fleet services your going through. Please, by all means prove me wrong - but as of now I'll assume that you simply don't understand how rare this car is. Hybrid's are completely different because every dealership has at least a couple of them, at least around here.

No, they don't have any on the lots either. They get bought within hours of rolling off the trucks. Dealers don't do waiting lists either really. You get put on a list and get a call when one comes in. Then everyone scrambles to the dealer to buy it for a few thousand over MSRP.

i know ATOT is anti VW and eveyone is going to jump on me for saying this, but Autoweek recently did a comparison between the new GTI and the new Civic SI. They liked the GTI better for its refinement.

Atleast test drive the GTI before you make your decision

So I'm assuming you are going through a fleet services company then? Call them and ask them about getting an Si. I'll drive down to California and pick it up 😀

My situation is different, I actually have friends that work as mechanics at a Honda dealership around here, and I know fleet sales services - but I still haven't been able to get one, I could get a Hybrid without any trouble at all, and below or about MSRP after paying the fleet services fee

I'm in So Cal too and the dealers here do have Sis out on the lot. Problem is no one will pay the markup on them since they're around $2-4. The 3 Honda dealers I've been to in the past week had at least 2 Sis in stock. Maybe it's different in other states.

Did you read the motortrend article? I trust their stats, and on the track the Si won. I think thats pretty significant given the torque advantage the GTi had. The LSD and highly tuned suspension on the Honda won out. The Si is more of a drivers car, the GTi may be more of a refined daily driver, but thats not what the Si is supposed to be. And thats not what MotorTrend tested for

OK, so I'll be buying a new car in the next 12 months or so. We want a coupe that's sporty, reliable, and looks good. So far, I'm considering the Mazda3, Scion, WRX, Eclipse, 350Z(pricey), but mostly I'm pretty fixated on the '06 Civic Si.

My price range is approx. 18-25k

My previous cars:

1 '84 Pontiac Fiero (LOL)
2 '89 Honda CRX Si's (Most fun)
1 '02 Subaru WRX (Fastest and fun but not as agile as the CRXs)
1 '03 Toyota 4Runner (Family hauler)

Some criteria:

-30 or better highway gas mileage
-no convertables
-no 2 seaters (I know...the Z is 2 seater)
-Coupe highly preferred over 4 door

There just doesn't seem to be anything that touches the Civic Si given my criteria. The Eclipse looks good but I'm not sure about reliablility and it's heavy and not too agile I hear.

What are y'alls opinions?

Scions have sh!tty interiors from what i've hread. The Z car isn't in the same class at all, i wouldn't even include it as a possibility. I'm pretty sure that a WRC will cost a lot more than the other 3 cars (scion, mazda3, civic si, eclipse), so that's not really a comparioson either.

Out of the 3 remaining, Civic Si would be my fave hand downs. I've driven a 3 and the previous gen Civic Si and Si was a clear winner there as far as sportines goes. Keep in mind that it takes premium though.

the tC's interior isnt ****** at all. my gf has one. the ride is actually very quiet and nothing rattles. its a fun car to drive also. Oh and it comes with a great stereo system...just needs an aftermarket HU. I just installed an Alpine CDA-9857 along with my old infinity kappa 12" sub and a RF amp in her car and man it sounds nice in there! those are the best sounding stock speakers I've ever heard. Also they engineered the car with aftermarket in mind. That car is a dream to work on. So easy to install stuff in there

Yep, same here. Hoehn Honda in Carlsbad has 2, a silver one and a red one. Both have a $3k markup. I talked to a guy at Rock Honda and they have a few in stock and more coming in in the coming weeks but only have a $1k markup for internet pricing.

Getting an Si with NAV is tough though. They are hard to come by.

yea i believe you. Autoweek said the SI is slightly faster, has better turn in, and has less roll than the GTI. But they also mentioned all that can be fixed with aftermarket whereas aftermarket cant really help with interior refinement and the lack of rear leg room in the SI. Also they loved the hatch utility of the GTI. They concluded that the GTI is a better daily driver

because the Si is cheaper and has the same engine and a limited slip. every review i've read says there is no point to buying the RSX.

I like the new GTI... 😀 I just wish it were a little lighter. I'm going to check it out this weekend along with a WRX. 🙂

my housemate test drove both and ended up getting a '04 Civic Si just because the TC interior was cheap and plasticky compared to the si.

BTW "nothing rattles" is hardly a pro for any cars interior... it's expected that nothing rattles on a new car.

well the tC also costs 3K less. hey given the choice, id pick the SI over the tC also. the tC seems too much like a girl's car to me

We're discussing the new (06) Si here. The 01-05 Si was a detriment to the Si monicker, and nobody in the enthusiast community thought much of it. Even Honda Tuning said it was one of the worst Honda's they'd ever driven.
