I haven't driven it yet, but my friend sent me some of the pre-production information on the vehicle as well as the following comments.

The foundation for the Mustang GT-R's race-prepared 440-horsepower engine is the new 5.0-liter "Cammer" crate engine from Ford Racing Performance Parts. The engine is rooted in the MOD 4.6-liter four-valve V-8 engine family. However, the motor's flanged cylinder liners help provide 94mm (instead of 90.2mm) cylinder bores, creating a full 5.0 liters of piston displacement.

And while the motor employs the SVT Mustang Cobra?s forged crankshaft with six-bolt mains and Manley "H-Beam" connecting rods for superior strength, the high-strength Ford Racing block features design reinforcements and a revised material for added strength and high-output durability. The block is specially reinforced in the crankcase web areas for high torque loads.

Other key differences include forged pistons, an 11.0:1 compression ratio, ported heads, higher-lift cams and beehive-shaped valve springs. The crate engine also features higher-flow fuel injectors and a magnesium, variable-geometry intake manifold.

The Mustang GT-R benefits from the 2005 Mustang?s race-inspired chassis, developed and tuned by engineers with Ford Racing engineering experience or a passion for weekend track time. The Mustang?s race-bred suspensions, near 50-50 weight distribution and ultra-stiff body structure, are just the beginning of Mustang GT-R?s credentials.

"The GT-R is the ultimate expression of the Mustang platform," says Hau Thai-Tang, 2005 Mustang chief nameplate engineer. "Mustang spans more of the market than almost any other car ? from an under-$20,000 V-6 to a race-ready car in the $40,000 range. The Mustang GT-R shows how we can expand that unmatched reach with the all-new platform."

I'm sorry this isn't a better picture.

Considering how beefy the engine is, I'd like to see more the 450 ponies out of it. Not of course that thats a small amount.....

The thing that disappoints me is the torque. 450 ponies is a good amount for a n/a mod motor though - even the 5.4 in the Cobra R made around 390, the supercharged (cast iron) 4.6 in the current Cobra only makes 4.6.

Agreed. I'm sure its fast as a witchs tit in winter, but still.... I think it could go alot more, especially from the standpoint of what the motor / tranny can take stress wise.

The question: Will it cost more or less than a Vette in 2006? And would you get more chicks in the Vette or the Mustang...

We can choose other cars but I'm sticking with American for the moment and the Viper is still a bit out of the price range I'm assuming.

Props to Ford if they actually deliver it.

The Vette. EASILY. The GT-R only has 1 seat, and most chics dont wanna sit on the floor. Especially one that has no dampening or carpet.

That's true. As it stands though, the motor is extremely expensive - the Cammer Crate engine runs $14K alone - it does seem like for that price it'd have more power.

In regards to wiz - even the 00 Cobra R had a modified IRS setup, that is kind of weird why they'd stick with the solid rear. I guess Rousch really hates the IRS

The solid axle is better for the strip.

As for the power, let's remember that Ford still has to make this thing able to pass emissions. It's still very impressive for a factory NA motor.

Its not too shabby I'll agree. But a NA LS1 or LS2 can easily hit those numbers. Heck, the LS2 damn near does it now. And that 5.0 Cammer has had ALOT of work done on it. Granted, its a smaller engine by a ways but still.... COnsidering how much time and effort they've put into it.....

HAHA
It doesn't have an interior its a race car.

It doesn't have a IRS because the cobra version hasn't been made yet. The GT version has a solid axle to make the car cheaper. I just wish they would offer an optional IRS on the GT.
