2006 Chevy HHR

I saw one in real life the other day, it looked pretty bland.

Nothing innovative in the engine/drivetrain/electronics, so all it has to trade on is looks, it doesnt even have the impact of the PR Cruiser visually.

It looks like a Hearse to me? When one passes by me I will be looking out for dead people falling out of the back.

Here is what one reviewer said about it:

Review: HHR is the hot, hot roadster that Chevy just came out with and the vehicle I have been waiting for!! Awesome drive and awesome looks combined with great gas economy and I think I made a great purchase. Oh, I almost forgot, the vehicle only cost me $16,900....scary! Only negative was there were only 2 to choose from!! Luckily, black was one of the colors I was OK with. Awesome truck!
Favorite Features: Style and Drive. Plus it's a Chevy so it will last me forever!

That last statement is a joke. My family owend a Chevy and it ended up being towed to the scrap yard after 12,000 miles. The transmission went out an 7,000 (was replaced) miles and needed a valve job at 9,000. Wewere the original oweners.

actually i think the whole thing is a joke. for $17k i'd rather get a mazda3 5-door.

The HHR is quite a bit bigger and offers more flexible hauling than the 3.

I saw an HHR at a local bicycle shop the other day. It's a call little car. If they dropped the supercharged ecotec from the Cobalt SS in it, I'd consider one. They look a lot better in person than they do in pics.

but then i'd go for this

4-wheel disc, more power, based on a mid-size, more room, smarter doors, rugged interior, all for only $1k more

Don't we already have this? It's called the PT Cruiser.

If I wanted a 5-door, I'd get a Mazda 3s hatch

GM should stand for "Gee, Me-too". Chrysler's got the balls to actually design, and manufacture unique vehicles like the minivan and PT cruiser. Then, everyone else jumps on the bandwagon when it seems safe to do so.

Here was a chance for GM to improve on that design, by making it a real truck version. They should know how, since they've built 'em before! Imagine that, a nice full framed, RWD, V8 truck that can actually haul a serious load via huge cargo bay or even towing!

I personally think it looks better than a PT. It also hauls considerably more than most hatchbacks. Not a bad choice for a utilitarian.

I think it's ugly.... very ugly. I saw one in downtown East Lansing (at MSU) back in late april/ early may before it was announced... it had factory plates on it. It was ugly then and it's ugly now. It looks like a lowered Dodge Durango with a PT Cruiser front end.

When I saw one backed up to the bike shop, I was impressed with the cargo space that it provided for a relatively small footprint. Vastly superior to what my Mazda3 hatch provided. The worst thing about the 3s is that the hatch opening is relatively small and rounded off. Makes it hard to get boxes and other large squared off items in there.

With gas prices on the rise, I think you'll see this niche of vehicle types going back up in sales.

I saw was in real life the other day and thought it was a cross between a Durango and PT Cruiser. Blech.

Skin-deep history doesn't sell like it used to. Today, you can be retro if you want, but you better have the performance to back it up. The HHR doesn't.

What the HHR does deliver is practical family transportation in a retro wrapper, but so does the PT Cruiser. And for a couple hundred dollars more, you can get a turbo PT with better acceleration, tighter handling and stronger brakes.

We'll take the Chrysler.
