2005fpw question

pontifex

Lifer
just got my 2005fpw yesterday. i really like it.
i have a question about the scaling setting. it has 1:1, fit, and aspect.

no matter which one i set it to, it doesn't seem to make a difference. what exactly are these for?

Were you flipping through these while on 1680x1050 resolution? They don't do anything for the native resolution, they set how the image is scaled when using a non-native res. Say you set it to 1024x768. The 1:1 setting will display the image at 1024x768, so you will have the image centered in the middle of the monitor with black bars on all sides. Fit would stretch the image out in all directions to fill out the entire monitor. Aspect keeps the image in its original aspect ratio but stretches where it can, so a 1024x768 image would be stretched vertically, and you would just have black bars on the sides of the image.

At least that's from what I remember when I first got my 2005, I run everything at 1680x1050 so I don't really pay any attention to those settings.

It will only make a difference if you feed it non native size signals.

Say your game is 800x600.

1:1: will give an 800x600 box in the middle of your screen with black bars top and bottom.
Fit: will scale to fit on screen, and it will distort/stretch in the width to fit the narrower image on your widescreen.
aspect: will scale to fit on your screen, but will not stretch to fit the width. So you get full height, but black bars on the side.

The above takes place on DVI. On RGB, autofit or something like that might over-ride.

oh, ok, i was trying it in native res.

thanks for the info. that kind of alleviates my worries for games that won't let me play in the native res.

i've only had it for less than 24 hours but i already love this monitor.

Yep same here love mine. Like the old print ad for monitors had the slogan "in your face all day every day" there is a lot of truth to that and you better be happy with your display 🙂
