Just wondering if I should wait for 2007FPW. I was planning on getting the 2005fpw for x-mas, but now HDCP is worrying me. Is it worth the wait is it going to be hacked? Plan on using Vista when it comes out and using this display for awile so what's the deal?

Unless you play WMV DRM you won't have to worry about it with Vista.

But I still think you should wait for the 2007FPW. You may need it for HD-DVD and Bluray.

Not sure about component inputs.
HDCP can't go via component though. It's a digital technology. But maybe that was your point. I don't know if Bluray/HD-DVD DVD players will have component out.

hmmm, i can't seem to find a link on any info about the 2007FPW, what is it? It might cost a lot during the release and it'll be a few months until dell decides to put coupons on it to lower the price. The 2005FPW is a great monitor for the price.

It's the new lineup of monitors from dell the 2007FPW is like a refreshed 2005FPW.

Are you planning on watching "protected" (read: artificially crippled) HD content (HD-DVD/Bluray) on Vista or through a stand-alone player? If not, then I kind of doubt there will be any improvements over the 2005 other than the HDCP (with the possible exception of Component input). I also think the 2007 is going to be pretty expensive at release, at least compared to what you can get a 2005 for these days. I have a hard time recommending the 2005 if HDCP is going to be important to you, but at the price premium it's almost certain to come with, I don't know if I can recommend the 2007 for sure either...

Edit: For what it's worth, there are apparently ways to get around HDCP already - but the devices that can do it will cost you enough money that buying the 2007 over the 2005 would be cheaper.

If you're not planning on watching HD content at all then (excluding non-protected content like regular OTA broadcasts), then I'd recommend just going for the 2005FPW. I could be wrong, but I'm assuming that it'll cost at least a few hundred dollars more for the 2007 when it comes out. Just make sure that you know you won't be wanting HDCP capability later...
