How accurate is the pricing on Cars Direct?

With the "special pricing" for my area code. I can get a no frills T5 AWD manual for roughly 26k even.

Bleh to Haldex AWD. I'd go w/ the FWD model.

What is Haldex AWD and why the negativity?

I don't see what's wrong with it.. Text

It's a safety based AWD system, favoring FWD, and losing a ton of power. You know the 300hp S60R? Even with a 6 speed manual, they put down about 220hp to the wheels. It's no Quattro.

I know it favors fwd, but do you have anything to back up the claim that it loses a lot of power? I ask because I too am interested in an S40 (or V50), but if awd takes away too much power then I could go without it.

Sure, I spend a lot of time and money doing performance modifications to Volvos. I'm a Volvo nut. Here's the first dyno I could find, a stock S60R in 60 degree weather. Enjoy. There have been numerous reports of 220hp dynos though, and if you're getting an automatic, torque takes a 60 ft\lb hit as well.

If you want to find more information, I'd recommend reading the R boards at Swedespeed.com. Also check out the Current S40 boards, as there's a few guys on there with S40 T5s that are starting to hot rod them.

Thanks for the links

my sister just got the s40 t5 with the premium and sports package...the car with those rims looks very sexy see the pic on the link

s40

and the bixenon lamps are very bright..overall its a nice car...

Considered this when I was looking for a car.

Pros - AWD, Power
Cons - I don't like the interior, Mazda platform (though not a very good con, I admit), and price. If I got AWD, and the options I wanted, it'd push well past the amount I was willing to spend. My last con, is my local dealer said they were not out yet and he didn't have any, when in fact they were. Quick way to lose a sale.

I'd just like to say that my 6 year old Volvo has much, much nicer leather than my 2 year old Acura TL.

Well, whether it's hot or not hardly matters to me since the Mazda 3 is the same car but cheaper. Yes, the Volvo's engine is ever so slightly bigger than the biggest one in the 3 (2.4 vs 2.3) but they're the same car platform and I think I could live without that extra .1 liters of displacement for the ridiculous cost difference.

Of course, if you want the all wheel drive or turbo version I guess you'll have to go with the S40...but that pushes it into a price range where I could VERY EASILY find a much more appealing car (to me anyway).

Sometimes I am LMFAO at you 'car' guys here. The Mazda 3 and the S40 is not 'the same car'. Sure they use a lot of common components but they are nowhere near the same car.

WTF are you smoking dude. There is no way there can be a 36% power loss in the drive train. Proof or BAN!

That car is beautiful inside and out. I was just looking at one this past weekend when I went around doing some looking and test driving. I didn't drive the Volvo though. It does get pretty expensive with options though. I like that T-Tech interior too
