it is astounding but its also expected, after all, ps2 hype killed the dreamcast :disgust:

haha,/ i still never even bothered to get a psx, ps2, gc, xb........so 😛 hype didn't scare me! but this sounds WAY out there.....

Is anyone else as unhappy with this desire to create the all-in-one box as I am? I, personally, want my video game system to be just that, a video game system... i don't want all its extraneous uses to be a factor, and have implications on all sorts of other functions... I don't want to subscribe to some special cable service to use with the system, I don't want to have to link it to the internet to do the cpu-sharing, I don't want it to take over all the other functions of in-home entertainment... When I go to buy a game system, I want to buy a good game system with good games, and that is all... Why do these companies keep pressing this universal box on us, that will undoubtedly force the consumer into more obligations and monetary transactions than desired?

You ask why do they do that? Probably to force the consumer into more obligations and monetary transactions than desired, lol

Money out of your pocket is bad for you, good for them.

Wow...the revolutionary PS3 with its fantabulous CELL processor...*cough* bullshiz*cough*
From Electronics Design Chain
IBM has not announced when it will release the final chip, but the Cell project was originally envisioned as taking five years, suggesting that the final product may not be ready until as late as 2007. Although Sony refuses to talk about its future plans for the chip, it does admit that the Cell chip will not be the CPU in the Playstation3, reportedly slated for release in 2005.
Talk about revolutionary!

ussual sony bull tactic. most people stil got cell processors in their head.

yeah, yeah... it ultimately comes to that... but you'd think by now they'd realize that this "holy grail" they're striving for is undesired by consumers, the people they are selling this item to! ehh i guess i'm just dreaming of an idyllic world in which consumers are actually tailored to...

Thank goodness for Nintendo.

I remember watching some news show about how Nintendo was using strongarm tactics to push Sega out of the market back in the SNES days. I have nothing against Nintendo but they're no Saints.

FreAk😀

its 100x faster than the 1.3ghz wilamette core!! with the L2 cache disabled!! and 8MB of SDRAM!!

Lets see how it shapes up against a Tejas based PC in 2005, 1.2ghz bus, 9ghz+ clockspeed, 2M+ L2, 128k+ L1

man, it would be cool if the ps3 looked like this: ummmmmm

if this has already been posted in this thread or another thread, im sorry, too many playstation and ps3 threads, and at least i didnt create a whole new thread! just a measly little post that can easily die or get bumped when more news comes out. 😀

Being able to do the work of 100 P4s for a game console is nice...

But if I don't see any good games (and I do mean good as in gameplay and not this average FPS, one player RPG, more sports realism.... yatta) then it does not mean a thing to me.

I think it is just hype.
