it is classified as a "Mainstreamer Coupe"

it prolly takes those cars that are sold to Fleets and takes them out of contention. but i honestly dont know, prolly because they have a version of it that ISNT supposed to be a sports car version.

Toyota puts every new feature they are trying out into the Prius. It is more advanced than their Avalon. If you want top of the line in technology, that's your car.

No, it you want gadgets it's your car.

The Prius has a lot of gadgetry, but it has cloth seats, fairly uncomfortable ones as that, a ride like a pogo stick, horrible handling, and crosswinds will blow it across three lanes of traffic. The Prius is an ego-car. It's so that people can buy something "cool" despite the fact that a plain-jane stripped down Civic or Tercel gets better mileage and is better for the environment because the Prius' batteries are full of heavy metals and other hazardous materiels and will need to be disposed of in 5-10 years.

The entry level car market is very competitive.

I wonder how the popular Mazda 3 will fair against the tried and true Corolla and newly redesigned Honda Civic '06?

They make a lot cars quick... but the base models always sell the most. I drive a Lancer ES, not EVO. Of course for the same cost of an EVO, I can make my ES faster and better looking, so there was no point of getting the EVO.

In fact you could get a Ford Focus ZX3 and drop a mustang cobra engine into it and make it faster than 95% of the mustangs out there.

Even the V6 will be in the low to mid 6-second range and low 60 mph slalom times. Nothing to sneeze at and not "slow" by any means.

Uncomfortable cloth seats is pretty popular.

Simple...it does not meet the defenition....it has a back seat. The back seat is useless but it still has one. The Mustang is a "sporty" car, not a sports car.

You're looking at at least $5,000 for the fab work to make it fit in the engine bay, plus easily another $5,000 for the fab work to make the focus RWD and make the transmission fit. And it would handle like crap because the chassis can't take the power. You'd basically need to tube-frame the Focus. It would be far more expensive than the Mustang.

You don't need to touch the bay, it fits.

Even the new V6 is not low 6 second 0-60, sorry. It's a mediocre 15 second car, nothing special in this day.

So does my 944 Turbo have a back seat. Same with the Porsche 911. Those are both sports cars. Given the numbers that the new Mustang is posting in terms of performance, both the V6 and V8 versions, it's simply not possible to consider it as anything other than a sports car.

6.8 second 0-60 for the V6 convertible with the automatic and a green engine. The coupe (a few hundred pounds lighter) with the manual will be a few ticks faster, which would be, let's see... Mid 6 second 0-60.

And the 1/4 mile time for the convertible with the automatic is 15.1 seconds. Mid 14's should be possible with the V6 coupe and a manual.
