I'm looking for a runner / beater to get to from work... came across a 05' RSX with 68k miles, auto (previous salvage - accident was in 08' and has 50k miles on it since the accident)...

Drove it the other day everything seemed normal, tire wear looked normal (no frame damage I assume).... I plan on picking it up this evening, anything I should keep my eyes open for with these cars before I buy? From what I've read they're just as reliable as most honda/acura stuff is and the car seems to have been repaired properly years ago.

Best part is it is totally un-molested

Thanks!

If the price is right and you feel really, really comfortable inspecting it for damage, go for it.

That last part is key, though. You need to know what to look for. Little clues like missing or mismatched clips, overspray, things not lining up...anything that says 'someone has done something here.' And then being able to judge is they really really effed it up or not.

Also, I don't really see the point if it's not a Type-S with a 6spd. Might as well just buy a Civic for less money.

My first drive / inspection didn't put up any red flags. I am more concerned with generic RSX problems I might see.

Manual is out since the Mrs. Will need to drive it now and then... she has no interest in learning to drive a manual.

Civics are not cheaper than this will be going for... civic was my first choice, but this is coming in cheaper and with less miles due to the branded title is making it very attractive.

Yeah I agree unless its type S I see no point in getting this... that 160hp might seem like alot compared to a civic but the gearing isn't great

He's made no mention of performance being a consideration. If he can't get a Civic for cheaper, why not get it?

Im lowballing right now and uf they take my final offer I'll be getting the car for $5250.
Around here that's cheaper similar civics.

performance isn't important, I need point A to point B cheaply and efficiently.

KBB on 'fair' and 70k is like 9k using my zip code. 6k or less would be insanely cheap.

I would be very worried about the title, though. Do you have ANY idea of how extensive the repairs on it were? I've been in plenty of cars that initially drove decently, only to find on closer inspection that they were total shitheaps.

I've paid for a pre-buy inspection on every used car I've looked at buying. After finding out an Acura CL I was looking at had been welded back together, I decided it was worth the ~$120 or so they will charge you.

He didn't go for $5250, sounds like we'll settle at $6000 out the door (including TTL), which is like $5600 for the car itself... he didn't get back to me until later tonight so we'll probably have to do the deal tomorrow.

I did this when buying my IS250 (was in a wreck also) and it was a nice piece of mind. With the RSX, the claim was for $3500 in 08' (still fairly new car), all work was done by local Acura dealer's preferred shop using OEM parts. I would have never known it was damaged unless he would have mentioned it... can't find and overspray, mud, or mis-matching parts anywhere. Very clean and the work seems well done.... drives very well also, no pulling or wobbles.

Similar here... the car is spotless and for such low miles, I think 6k out the door will be well worth it... it will be nice to get off premium gas too.

Doesn't add up. Why would it have a salvage title from a $3500 wreck when ~four years old?

Where did it get hit?

Rear hit.

Wisconsin and MN are pretty easy with throwing out salvage... other states ( I think ) are 70% of the value in damage.

My fiancé's old accord got a salvage title from her backing out of a parking garage and rubbing a concrete pole. It needed a hood, headlight, fender, and bumper... minor damage to all but enough to salvage it.

I would take it to a mechanic for a good pre-buy inspection. If they don't find anything, pull the trigger.
