2005 questions

I received my 2005 today and I have some questions
No dead pixels but backlighting effect is obvious on the upper left of the screen
Overall though I'm pleased especially with games that support widescreen.

1. I connected through DVI conections and some options of the panel can't be changed eg in the brightness/contrast menu I cannot change the contrast. Is this normal (I'm new at LCD screens and I don't know) what should I be able to change in the menus of the LCD when I use DVI?

2. I tried to watch some movies with Power DVD and I can't watch them on fullscreen. It's not using all the viewable area and I changed all the config settings but nothing. Why's that? Also in some movies picture is being distorted. It was captured with DVDshrink and in my older 17'' monitor I didn't have any issues why is this happening now?

3. In a game that doesn't support widescreen how can I change the resolutions? Can I force some of them with Rivatuner and use it? Also in NFSU2 it doesn't let me change the resolution in the game to a higher one and take it further than 1024x768(I can get it to work on lowe ones but not higher, why is that?)

Thanks

Games like quake3 don't normally support 1680x1050... but you can manually set it by typing in console commands to adjust height and width... different games may have different methods of adjusting this... you'll have to research each game. Most new games will support it without trouble.

like
set r_customaspect = 1
set r_customheight = 1050
set r_customwidth=1680
set r_mode -1

Ok thanks. I found some info on widescreen forums. What about question no1.

This monitor doesnt let you change the settings when plugged through dvi. Just change the settings through the graphics control panel.

You can't change brightness or contrast via the OSD on an LCD when using the DVI, but you can change these settings in your video card control panel (at least I can with my nVida card). However, I initially turned down the brightness a bit on my 2005FPW and noticed that the darks were too dark, especially in games. So, I notched it back up to 100%. The monitor is considerably brighter than a CRT, but after you use it for a few days, you will get used to it, and come to appreciate even more the clarity this monitor has over a CRT. IMO, by messing with the brightness, you are just going to prolong your adjustment period.

I've got a question. When you rotate it, is there any sort of option to have your system auto-change the resolution for your LCD being long-wise?

Thanks. I have an ATi card though and there is a hotkey setup to change it longwise. I had no clue it was there until I checked for it.
