My car, figured I would make a post 'bout it. 37k-ish miles.

Who likes it? ;o
It has been a very dependable and awesome car for me so far, it has surprisingly good power and acceleration, I took it to 100mph today....on a 45mph country-ish road, has a Pioneer surround like system, with a nice 10" Pioneer woofer in the trunk...100mph and was only at like 4,000 RPM's, my speedometer goes to 140 I think, personally I think the car can do easily 120mph or so... Chrome grille was like $80 off the bay....and has 16" wheels.

Its my first car too ;o

On a side note, the car was built wrecked for about $4000.....Salvage, who can tell :p. My dad is good with body repair, I am fairly certain the side in the picture has a bit of bondo in the door, and the ass end off another car lol.

I had one of those pile of shit boxes when they came out, 2005 LT model. The LTZ is a 2006 model, why they changed it after one year i dunno. It was the absolute worst thing that Ive ever driven or owned, in total it accumulated over 5k of warranty repairs in 3 years and was in the shop more times in those three years than all of our other three cars combined in that time.

Just a list of the things that went wrong off my head:
Leaky headlights
rear bulbs blew out every 6 months or so
radio replaced twice for paint chips falling off
ignition replaced because some of the tumblers broke off inside of it and the car wouldn't crank
transmission shifter replaced because it would get stuck in park
noticeable thunk from the rear suspension over bumps no matter how fast you were going
electrical short caused the car to TURN OFF while i was driving.......on the freeway.....at 75mph
the seats are terrible, they make your back hurt after an hour of driving

the radio was nice though

I'm pretty sure I did, when I went and bitched GM customer care out I found out that my car was built at the end of the first week of production for the car itself. I will have to admit though, Chevy and GM bent over backwards making it as easy as it could possibly be, I got a full size, fully paid rental every time it was in the shop and a free tank of gas in my car when I got it back.

The engine was pretty peppy for a car its size though, I got rid of it and obtained an 08 VW GTI, which I enjoy much more :)

The 2005 model had something stupid like 200 TSBs, it must have all been smoothed out by 06

how much did you pay for it?

you're prob just liking the seats cuz its new. tall people + compact car becomes bad very quickly.

Meh, the road I went 100 on I don't see cops on ever but if I was doing 120 on a 55 road, there would probably happen to be one there...lol

They aren't a bad car, from my experience anyway. I picked up a 2007 LT coupe with 29K miles for $6,500. Both of my other vehicles have 5.7 engines, so it's a bit of a change, but still has some decent snort to it. The biggest problem I've had with mine is the kid who had it before smoked, so the interior smelled like shit. It's getting better though, and was well worth the cheap price.

How were you able to get one for so cheap?

Side impact without the curtain bags yeah, frontal is 4/5 stars though. I can attest to the front protection being excellent from prior experience, haha

My wife and I rode in a Cobalt as passengers in the back a few times. The seats back there really suck.

Would you guys be interested in looking at monthly or so before and after pictures of wrecked cars, it can be pretty interesting.

I rented one a few days back. It's not a bad vehicle. Very practical and well made. The seats actually were pretty good.

rode in one this week. felt cheap as shit. the passenger rear window went up at about 20% the speed of "normal"
it got stuck every 1/3 the way and i had to manually pull it up. feel bad for some acquaiance who was the owner. he wasn't too proud of owning it.

Thats normal, thats how fast they normally go up

It was a pretty cheap car though, it had a ton of potential but it seems they couldn't exactly deliver on it completely.

its normal for one of the windows to go up 20% slower than the rest? it is also normal for me to have to use my hand and pull the window up 3 times to get it fully closed from fully open?

sucky car

Yeah, it happens if you use the window a lot. There was a TSB for it, something about wearing out the regulator for the window motor with a lot of use. My driver window did the same thing. I never had mine stop going up though, but it wouldn't surprise me if it happened.

The 2007+ models were light years better in terms of electrical gremlins as they upgraded and redid the electrical systems

I was just pissed they upgraded the head unit for the 2006 models to include an audio in jack and my 2005 didnt have one.

It feels cheap because it was cheap, my fully loaded LT was about 16k out the door, I think a civic DX costs that much.

Taking your opinion with a mountain of salt.

Of course it felt cheap though. Duh, it is a cheap car. Surely you didn't expect a plush interior on a cheap car?

Friend of mine recently bought a brand new 09 cobalt SS. I haven't ridden in it but he said that little turbo 4 sure has some guts to it.

the colbalt is a vestige of old gm, great drivetrain, chinsy interior quality.

the cruze is going to be what the colbalt should of been.
