2004 Scion xA and xB Review

These two new Scions aren?t performance standouts, but they?re spacious, inexpensive, and stylish, which fits most of the needs of the Gen Y crowd they?re going after. And by setting the base prices low, Scion is hoping buyers won?t hesitate to dig a little deeper and customize their cars. With Saturn?s mistakes fresh in mind, Scion is already understanding (we hope) that offering competitive, class-leading products is just as important as the marketing.
Let's hope that they don't turn out to be craptastic like Saturn

What ugly cars, especially that Toyota "Element". For some reason, I can see alot of guys buying cube wheels for that thing cruising around with neon lights.

I actually think the "cube" is pretty cool. The only thing I despise is the center-mounted gauges!!!:|:|

If I wanted a cheap, reliable car for a 16 year old, they'd be getting one of these. If they don't like it, buy your own sh!t 😛

omg...that second box-on-wheels scion is UGLY!!!

I'd never drive that, even if it was given to me for free. Not to mention that weak ass engine probably red lines just going up hill 🙂

yea i dunno about the xB, but the xA looks pretty nice to me.

as a youth all that i hope a car has is:

good acceleration
decent power
reliable (well, it's toyota, so i guess we don't have to worry)
looks decent
can hold friends

i guess i'll have to test drive it to see how the first two criteria hold up. oh yea, and it better not have those crappy rear windows that only go down half way. i'm definitely not going to get one if that's the case.

Looks like Toyota thinks youths like 108hp.

Dude, the cars weigh 2200 pounds. That's plenty for decent accelleration.

more like 2350 or 2400 depending on which one, still lame power.

My first car had 85 HP in it.

Mine has 75 HP.

I have you beat. My 95 Civic CX has 74 HP with no a/c, black interior, and it has been 90+ here in Utah. But I get 45mpg in it at 80mph so I am happy.

Believe me, as a "youth looking for his first car" from a price, performance, and aesthetics perspective, neither Scion is on it. 😛

price? you did see the sticker price in the article, right?

It's hard to understand why would somebody buy this instead of getting, say, a two-three year old Maxima for less.

well...

people like new cars
people want more room
people want something less generic

If you go to Scion.com you can build your personal vision of ugliness.

The camoflage green on the xB with the "X" applique & rear spoiler is pretty damn ugly.

There's optional dealer installed led interior lighting, your choice of colors😀

The xA can actually look pretty cute for an under $15K car.

Mine had 64 IIRC.

They really need to import the Echo Hatch down to the US market. I really like it and had it been out when I was shopping for my Golf, I would have given it a serious look.
