What other roadsters can you buy that will cost less money and give you more car?

The S2000 has an MSRP less than the 350z roadster, has far more pep (yes, I've driven both), and is much more structurally sound. The only thing you can't do with an S2000 is brag to your friends that you've got a "huge 3.5 liter, 6 cylinder motor" or "287 horses in the stable." But then again, if all I cared about was showing off, just get a base model Boxster with matching Porsche keychain, wristwatch, and pen/pencil set, and call it a day :)
Honestly, I think between those two cars it's going to come down to your driving style and the way you use your car. I haven't driven a Z roadster, but I've driven an S2000 and a VQ-equipped G35. The engines are so different that I'm sure the Z and S2K have very divergent "personalities" so it's impossible to say one is just "better" than the other.

s2000 is a great alternative to a boxster S, specially for the price.. if the styling weren't so bland i would've definitely gone for one.. it's a very capable car, and i hear the shifter/shifting is real nice

i love my car though, and screw the 350z, its a pig

Boxster is a total chicks car. Look at who is driving them, predominantly women.

My friend has a 2001 S2000 and I love it ...he loves it...everyone who drives it loves it. 9000 rpm redline!

the S2000 is quicker than the Boxter (not the Boxter S however), has a maintenance needs of any other honda (i.e. none except for routine stuff), and is 30k or less off the lot.

I girl I knew at work had a Boxter S and I drove it a few times...really nice but for about half the money I could have an S2000 which just as nice in most respects and better in some.

The S2000 engine sounds incredible above about 5000-6000 rpm...and it exhibits some mean power in that range as well. I think the s2000 runs the 1/4 mile in about the same time as the boxter S...but I don't really recall.

I've driven both, and I own a 350Z coupe. I haven't driven the 350Z roadster, but saying the S2K has far more pep and more structurally sound is completely false.
A stock Miata feels pretty fast too due to it's weight and size. The S2K has advantages over the Z in some areas (cornering), but more pep it hasn't.

you're obviously not aware of the handling advantage the S2k has. Much more nimble than the 350Z

The Boxter S is a better car, but as you've noticed the S2000 definitely offers better bang for buck. If one cared the price difference would allow mods to the S2000 to more than make up for it. Unfortunately it just doesn't carry the porsche badge though ;)

And the S2K has no low-end torque. What's the point? There is none, they're different cars. One might be superior than the other in certain track conditions, but not overall.

It's not meant to be a daily driver, so who cares? Honda designed that motor to never rev below 5k. It's a motor that's meant to *REV*, not to get you back and forth to work. Yes, it has no torque down low, because it's not supposed to.

And? The 350Z has low-end torque because it is supposed to. The point is that they're different cars, both philisophically and in terms of performance; apples and oranges. You can't compare a corner-happy S2K with no low-end torque to a more balanced (not in terms of weight distribution) Z.

I love the S2K, btw.

Ok, glad you realize that they're very different cars. Many people think the S2k is supposed to be a commuter car, well, it's not. I thought you were trying to debate the point se7enty7 was making "too little car for the money". I was just emphasizing that you can't really compare the two since they're "geared" so differently :)

Yeah, that's a pretty hot car. I like it a lot. However, the 'gauge cluster' looks pretty lame.

They went back to 92-96's that is very very similar

The power to weight ratios are nearly the same for both the s2000 and the 350z. Ahh, and yes, they are both very nice cars.

Oh, I wasn't really comparing the S to the coupe version.

"Pep" is subjective but it has a includes 0-60 time, low or balanced weight, go-kartlike handling, and just the overall fun-to-driveness about it...but yeah, it's still a whole lot of opinions so I'll drop it.

As for structure, any convertible based on a fixed-roof isn't going to be as structurally sound as a convertible built on its own platform from the ground up.

i just like the 350z/g35 coupe a bit more than the S2000 beacuse it is a "BIT" more luxurious.

I like the navigation and all the luxury the car provides. IMO, s2000 is too much $$$ for what it's worth. 350z is a better value.
