It's not that I know zero about restaurants, its simply that I'm asian =p

Haha .. we can't spend money.

No, you're just a cheap asian. Many of the members of the Chinese side of my family spend LOTS of money. Same with my gf's family.
true true. My dad thinks Todai is very reasonably priced (and with 6 people, it's around $200 for a freakin family dinner). My mom however, collects coupons for $50 cents off $6 ice cream and recieves like 5 $1 rebate checks a month

I wore a black suit (pants, jacket), black shoes, blue shirt - standard stuff
Picked up the girl and drove to the house of one of the other people in our group, took some pictures there, then went to a spot above the beach (5 minutes away) - took more pictures, then drove to an Italian restaurant (I think we spent $15-20 a plate), went to the dance part - spent most of the time outside, then went to Denny's after it all. Finished off the night with some extra fun after we left the group 😉

-A group of friends is a lot of fun to go with
-Pay for her dinner
-Open/close her door, seat her to the table if you want to
-You can get a boutonniere (the flower to be pinned in your coat) if you want, see if anyone if your group is getting one if you're undecided
-We took lots of pictures, if parents of anyone are involved, there will be lots of pictures. They took up a lot of the time, but it was nice to have afterwards.

That's all I can think of at the moment..

Don't annoy everbody else when you get to the resturaunt! 😉

Seriously, though, have fun. Everybody else has got you covered on what to do, or not to do.

In a way I was lucky being in marching band we just had to wear our uniforms so therefore didn't have to worry about other clothes. I think a tux, though, would be a big overkill. I would just go for some nice slacks and shirt with tie. Maybe a jacket depending on the resturant.

If you got the cash you may want to splurge on a suit just because you sure as heck can use it for other things: graduation, college interviews, other school events, etc.

wtf... if you're not going in a tux and your date isn't going in a very lavish ball gown, and you're not renting a limo for the night, there's no point in going at all. My senior year, I spent $600 on the limo alone.
:Q

Did she compensate you at all later that night?

Yes, but probably not the way you mean. She and I, in our PJ's, fell asleep in each other's arms back at the high school trying to stay up through an all-nighter after the formal/prom while watching a movie in the gym with a couple hundred other people. 🙂 I was completely happy.

Keyword here is Homecoming. You're talking about Prom. Entirely different dances/events.
