Thanks for viewing this thread. I had trouble starting my truck this morning (2004 nissan frontier 4dr 2wd). All the lights and automatic windows worked so i figured it was the starter. The starter itself was making a strange humming sound. after reading through numerous threads i tried starting it in neutral and it cranked up(with a slight struggle). took it around the block, killed it, and started it up again in park. Just to make sure this doesn't happen again, does anyone have any idea what the exact problem could be? any input would be highly appreciated.

First thing I would do is tighten the wires on the starter and see if the problem goes away.

If the problem persists maybe its time for a new starter. How many miles on the truck.

I used to have an 03 Frontier. I put 140,000 miles on it with no major issues. Good little trucks.

the truck has about 80k miles on it. haven't had any problems since that morning so i think ill just ride it out. i had a 4cyl 1998 frontier before this one and it ran like a champ. sold it at 120k miles and still cranked up first try. thanks guys!
