2004 Ford Mustang GT owners: What to expect?

I'm looking at getting an 04 GT. What should I expect?

1. Problems with the vehicle.
2. Good stuff. What features do you like?
3. Bad stuff. What things do you not like?

Any good formus on Mustangs?

the seats suck. replace them. the 05 should have much better seats. plus more power. plus a new chassis. and it looks better. most mustangs are pretty bullet-proof reliable though.

I would, but the rebates are on the last few remaining 04s. The 05s might not have any buyer incentives until next year.

The 05 GT starts at 25K, how much cheaper are you getting a 04?

The problem is that '04 models will have very poor resale with the all-new model coming out. Even if you get a good deal, the high depreciation might wipe out any cost savings.

The '05 might not have any rebates but after a few months of high demand I would think you could get an OK deal. Don't forget that the Mustang is a volume seller and there are TONS of Ford dealerships everywhere. There is plenty of competition to help drive prices down, even on a new model like the '05.

WAIT. I know that if I bought an 04 now I'd be kicking my own ass in 6 months watching people drive around with newer 05s. You can say goodbye to resale at that point, and you'll feel like you're driving an old car, because you are. The money you can save by not making payments on that 04 will probably make up for the rebates by the time the 05 comes out (since it may have none).

Here's the other side to this question...

I have an 03 Expedition that is too much and too large for what we need. Half of this was to get rid of the Expedition. I'll probably keep the Mustang for a while, so trade-in value isn't a top concern. The photos of the 05s are nice, but I also like the 04 body style.

So, any comments/feedback on the 04s?

The longer you drive the expedition the less of a bath you'll take when you get rid of it, don't forget.

And you probably thought you'd keep the 03 for a while when you bought it too, right?

Quixfire is a mechanic for Ford - he knows all about them mechnically. I don't know if the 99-04's are still classified as SN95's like the 94-99's are, but mechanically everything on the 99's have been the same except for a boost in HP up to 260 in 99. (Still the same SOHC 4.6) For something that's been around 10 years, all the kinks and issues have long been worked out by now. The only thing you have to worry about is what parts you'll be upgrading on it

My aunt has had both a 95 and 98 model Mustang.....both have been Pieces of S@*#. She had to have gaskets replaced, heads, transmission, clutch, steering on the 95. 98 has had exhaust replaced, and engine.

I have an '03 GT and it rocks hardcore. It's really noisy though and doens't handle that well. It does have that meaty-manly roar and a LOT of pickup. I added a supercharger though which overpowers the nice noise with that horrible whine. Worth the 110 horses extra though.
Anyway, it's a great car but geat the rims with the yellow flange (chrome) and the leather detailing
Or...maybe you should wait for the 2005 GT. It's the only mustang to be produced in '05 and it's got a better frame, handling, more power, looks etc etc etc

I read that Ford is only making the GT in 2005. No V6, no mach, no cobra.

I read that Ford is only making the GT in 2005. No V6, no mach, no cobra.

I never heard the part where it's GT (no V6) only....there's no Cobra b/c SVT is suspended for the 05 model year and the Mach is a "special edition" to fill in the gap b/t the current Cobra and the GT

I just read in a mustang form that they're going to be upping the V6 from 220-250hp in the next three years. That doesn't mean they're making one this year though.
It was a real paper magazine I read that the GT was to be the only one this year...

I seriously doubt they won't release the V6 version at the same time as the V8. I read somewhere (C&D?) that the V6 accounts for over half of the Mustang's sales. Pictures and specs of the V6 version (4L SOHC, 202 hp, 235 lb-ft) were released at the same time as the GT.

We'll see. I hope they keep it going especially if they up the power to the level of the current GTs.
Not really that relevant here anyway since he wants a GT anyway.
The V6 was always marketed towards a younger demographic who couldn't afford the V8 and were willing to dump more money into it later for upgrades. It's still a better upgrade platform than ANY Honda ricer out there.

I would say that the vast majority of V6 owners never even open the hood. It's marketed to people who want a mustang but either can't afford the GT, or simply don't care about power, except to say they own a mustang!
