My 2003 Toyota Avalon is shutting off when I put it in gear. There is no engine light on. I have had it checked and it did not show any codes. I had to replace the alternator and the battery but it stills shits off. Any thoughts

Check the intake hose for leaks\tears.
Clean the throttle body. (google proper procedure for Avalon 3.0)
disconnect and reconnect battery after throttlebody cleaning

report back

Thanks for the reply. I cleaned the throttle body last night and replaced the fuel filter. I'll check intake hose and see what happens. It don't do it every time but I'm sure there will come a time when if will and won't start back up. It's just hard trouble shooting problems without a code.

WRONG! No codes have ruled out a whole layer of issues. Now it is back to the basics. Start with : is it fuel or electrical?
I've changed the fuel filter and it was about I say 65% clogged and cleaned the throttle body. Just waiting now to see if it does it again.

<-- Not a mechanic and know very little about cars, so take it for what it's worth.

Had a similar issue with my Infiniti a while back. Turns out a wire for the reverse lights, that was routed along the trunk door, had broken after having the trunk opened and closed so many times.

Replaced that portion of wire, problem was solved.
