First I think the new accord is quite ugly, but even worse- I think it's styling is old and dated- not a good quality for a car that has just been restyled.
And yes, it would have been a joke just a few years ago that Honda was going after VW buyers.

Haha. Honda better hope they keep their boomer buyers, because no Passat buyer will touch this accord with a 10 foot pole. There is not a teutonic muscle in the sedan, and the only teutonic part of the coupe is that blatant CLK ripoff rear end.
My bet: Accord average buyer age will go up in 2003.

I have a Passat. I'm 23. I f*cking hate that Accord. Look how much distance there is between the top of the wheel well and the trunkline/hoodline. It's like 2 feet in the back! It looks like a Camry to me. If you put bigger wheels on that thing, I think it would look even worse. I'll pass.

I will guarantee higher sales of this model than the previous model. I don't think that the average age of the owner will decrease by much (if at all) but I do not believe it will increase either.

I thought the last remake of the Accord was terrible, It grew on me, and then everyone and their mother and their mother's mother bought it based on its merit and reputation.

Its not like one fugly generation will destroy a name brand like "ACCORD"

A racier hoodline won't lure Passat buyers to the Accord. Passat has beautifully clean lines thru the whole car, Accord has no cohesiveness about it. Its also bad that it looks like the Camry which has an older median buying age.

The best Accord was the first Accord[1976-81](with the 1.5/1.6L cvcc motor), the 2dr Accords esp. were unique and stylish even compared to BMWs of the time.

And the Aztek is pretty also? The Accord looks like its final revision was done by an accountant, another word for it is design by commitee.

I'm 35 and drive a Passat. That Accord does nothing for me.

I'll probably get another Passat when I trade mine in next year.

I too am astounded at the new Accord- the masked off spy shots looked kinda cool and promising, but after the tape was ripped off... no comment.

I'm 21 and plan to get a Passat next summer (up from a 1986 GTI), probably a pre-owned 2001.5/2002 turbo. Both generations of the Audi A4 have been pulling at my heartstrings ever since 1995/2001, but nobody can deny the downright amazing value you can find in even a brand NEW Passat (and pre-owned? you can find a nicely loaded '99 for $13k!!). I 'built' one on VW.com: GLS w/ the 170hp 1.8T (APR chip to 220hp+ to be added), black, leather package (black), 5-speed stick, luxury package (sunroof/moonroof, 15" alloys (which will be upgraded to a set of tasteful 18s anyway) seat heaters, other nice useful stuff) and a Monsoon sound system. MSRP? $25,600. Wow. And you can buy them for less than MSRP, I hear, at the right dealerships? WOW.

Amazing Bauhaus looks, an amazingly efficient, quick and smooth Wards Top 10 internationally rated and easily tuneable turbo engine, lots of room, a huge trunk, nice stereo and pleasing high quality interior appointments that set the BENCHMARK for any other car in its class... there's just no comparison. Accord what? This is going to be what BMW 5-Series buyers on a tighter budget (with the economy and all, natch) will be trading in for after they see the 2004 5-Series has gotten Bangleized. Honda chases VW and Audi. VW chases BMW and Mercedes. Who's the closest on catching their prey? My money is on the latter.
