2003 Accords getting the attention they deserve?

I'm not really in the market for a new car, but if I were, I think I'd go after a new V6 6-spd accord ...

I think they're good looking, and definitely have the performance #'s to compete with other sports cars out there ...

Yet we never see any threads on them ... WTF?

I have a 98 S-10 and if I felt my position were more stable, I'd be all over one of these loaded puppies for like 26k in a heartbeat! Hell, they even get 30mpg on the freeway!

I was really really really pining over a 2k3 Accord Coupe a while ago... but then I decided to let the bugs work out, since it is a new car. Last I heard, there were some brake problems. But overall, it is a very nice looking car. THe rear end reminds me of CLK or SLK or whichever.

Also I've heard that the engine is very torquey.

Torquey? More like wimpy. Only has 212 lb-ft of torque @ 5,000 RPM compared to 240 lb-ft @ 3,600 RPM and 246 lb-ft @ 4,400 for the Camry SE V6 and Altima 3.5SE V6 respectively. They also make their torque at much lower reves than the peaky Honda engine.

Honda feeds their horses better than toyota or nissan. Performance is similar.

The new accord might have 240 horses but if you read the reviews the car is slow. It does I think I read high 15s for 1/4. That is kind of bad for 240HP...

I personally do not like the Honda Accord the new ones.
The interior is not as nice as the competition IMO.
I kind of like the coupe it is growing on me, but I still don't like the interior. Looks like a Mercedes on the outside kind of.

If I was in this market I would concider getting a 2004 Maxima. Why? Both cars look like eggs, but I think Maxima has always been better than an Accord. Check up on the new Maxima if you like the styling of an Accord you'll like the egg shaped styling of the Maxima.

You dont hear about it becuz it's no surprise Honda comes up with another best-seller... Everyone expected it even before the new accord came out...

Mazda/Nissan on the other hand, was a surprise...

honda's engines have traditionally been low on torque and have had High Peak RPM numbers. Honda goes for a smooth feeling acceleration and torque engines jerk passengers around a bit more than honda likes.

unfortunately there are a lot of people out there that prefer it that way.

The 2k3 v6 6 speed makes 217 WHP, a bit on the high side for 240 crank.

The v6 gets all the attention but the I4 is still a pretty crazy motor. For a stock, NA honda, it makes more torque at the wheels than it does HP. I've heard of stick I4 coupes running consistently mid 15s in the 1/4 stock and mid 7s for 0-60.

I'm hoping to get a stick I4 coupe LX for my next car.

I test drove the Accord LX Sedan (I4) a while back when I was considering one... Took it out to the highway and also drove around in the city... the engine felt quite powerful even with 4 adults in the car... certainly enough for any city/highway driving... and I was driving an auto too...

I would say the feel is actually comparable to the last gen accord V6's...

I swear NFS, you're the biggest freaking magazine racer I've ever ran across. You really need to stop taking manufacturer specs at face value because they're wrong half the time.

It makes 195 torque at the wheels and the torque curve is flat enough to shoot pool on.

Actually that feeling is right. People on accord forums are reporting the I4 is real close to the old V6 in terms of performance. The previous gen accord V6 was kind of a joke though. The first gen accord v6 was just pathetic.

More like 260lb-ft on the Alt and Max (2002/2003). Dyno proven to put out 220 lb-ft at the wheels at around 3600rpm with 90% of that at around 2k rpm range.

I'd venture to guess that 14.5 quarter mile for the 6-Speed Coupe is faster than any stock Camry or Altima/Maxima.

so you proved that NSF4 was wrong about the peaky but isn't 195 less than 212 or did was my public school education that bad?

I don't know where you got those times but they're not accurate. Browse around v6performance.net and you'll see the manual v6 consistenly does mid 14s and the auto v6s are consistent low 15s.

We love our 2000 with the I4 Vtec 5spd.
At first I didn't like the look of the new ones, but they've since grown on me. I'd love one.

195 is on the high side when you consider drivetrain loss. There's no such thing as a transmission with just 8% loss going through it.

i just know in general, all the hondas i've driven have been lower torque than their comparative nissan or toyota counterpart.
