2002 Winter Olympics are over... what was your fav moment?

Man, I have to say that NBC did a fairly decent job with their coverage... I really enjoyed these Olympics 🙂
My fav is when Bode Miller "flew" down the downhill section of the Combined... man, I can't believe he didn't fall!
 
3 : Canada winning the gold in hockey.
2 : Sarah Hughes winning the gold in figure skating for the USA.
1 : That lucky Aussie bastard winning the gold in short track speed skating.
 
Definately the number one moment is when Sarah Hughes skated her absolutely perfect performance and blew everyone away.

Number two is when that guy did the dinner roll jump on the sport where you have to ski down the hill left and right over bumps. (Forgot the name)

The final goal Canada scored in the game today, Sacik's break away. That's when I knew we had won.

The women's final was really emotional too, go figure
 
The australian speed skater who advanced to the finals by being last in every race but advancing because all the other skaters crashed (2 different races). Then, in the finals, the korean took everyone down, and his strategy had been, "well, they've crashed every other race up to now, Im slower than all of them, so I'll just do what I've been doing- staying in last". Korean took him everyone down in the 1000 finals, he races past them, and raises his arms as he wins gold. Didnt deserve the gold in any conventional sense, as he admitted, but still an awesome thing to see.It was absolutly astounding thinking about how incredibly lucky that he was. Plus its australias first winter olympic gold.
 
2. American Bobsled teams winning bronze + silver
1. American skeleton guy winning gold (thus becoming the first third generational olympian medalist)

I didn't really follow the olympics too much...just here and there cuz I had a lot to do and I don't feel like watching something when it's not live =P

in no particular order

1. half pipe competition
2. going to the women's luge
3. watching the ski jumpers practice while i was like 30 feet to the side of the actual jump ramp (i was in the judging booths)
4. going to the pre-qualifying rounds for short track
5. going to dress rehearsal opening ceremonies
6. going to closing ceremonies
7. the parties here in SLC during the games 😀
8. the American anthem played to the WTC flag (that was really emotional for me)

i'm kinda bummed that i have to leave SLC now that the games are over, i've become sorta attached, been here since July...
 
Although there were many great moments at the Olympics, I decided to mention a couple funny things that I noticed at last nights closing ceremony.

First off, I damn near filled my boxers when they introduced KISS. Unbelievable! The makeup, platform boots, tongue and pyrotechnics were all in full effect! They were jamming to "Rock and Roll All Night" and playing atop a stage that was driving around on the ice and, you guessed it, rotating. Even though the conditions were below freezing, Paul Stanley was still able to display his hairy chest. He is a true American patriot. I just wish they would have played "Cold Gin" instead.

I laughed HARD, when at the end of the song, Paul Stanley was standing there, waving his guitar around with an American flag hanging off the neck, and Bob Costas goes, "Gene Simmons and the boys..... still bringing it!"


The other was watching Tico Torres bangin' on something other than a nail or a million dollar blond with Bon Jovi. The cool part about that performance was when Richie Sambora played this KILLER lick with neither his left or right hand anywhere near a string. It was truly one of rock's greatest moments.
 
One of my favorite moments is a corollary to Aquaman's "hot women Olympians." I particularly enjoyed seeing the incredibly hot Aussie freestyle skiier, Alisa Camplin. I unfortunately missed her interview on Leno. 🙁 But they definitely seemed to be focusing on her during the closing ceremonies last night (one interview, another time on camera, plus they showed several clips of her competing and on the medal stand). She might have been the highlight of the Olympics for me. 😉

Other favorite moments, in no particular order:
-Alisa Camplin won the gold in freestyle. From what I understand, she had to sell her own car to pay for her training in the event, and her parents had to sell a car in order to be able to buy tickets to see her compete in the games.
-Johnny Moseley doing the "Dinner Roll" in the moguls. I am still amazed by that move.
-Belarus' final goal to defeat Sweden in men's hockey, which was shot from beyond the blue line. Talk about unexpected.
-The Derek Parra / Jochem Uytdehaage mini-rivalry in speed skating, as well as seeing Parra cry on the medal stand after winning gold.
-Seeing figure skating's horrible scoring system collapse.
-Simon Amman winning two ski jump medals. His attempt at English was pretty hilarious, but I'm not sure I saw a more excited athlete.
