I got a good deal on a 2002 Subaru Forester, for $6995 (67k miles). Any known issues with the car? I test drove it this past weekend, its in good condition.

What model is it? Just under two years ago we purchased a 2002 Forester L with 65k miles. Haven't had a problem with it since then, but it's only up to around 89k now.

Its the "L" model. When do you have to replace the timing belt/water pump?

105,000 miles so says the owners manual. Although I hear it's expensive/difficult because it has two timing belts, one goes to each set of cylinders.

Edit: Maybe it was one belt, but it goes to each set of cylinders so there's more labor involved.

Well, this car is a short term for me, 1-2 years max till I get a new car, going cheap now since I'm looking to buy a new condo.

So other than the timing belt, no other issues? The clutch and front/rear brake pads were just replaced, so shouldnt have to worry about those for a while.

Head gasket issues for those older subarus... Timing belt change should be either 105 or 90 k miles

Yeah, my boss has a Subaru Outback, he had to get the head gasket replaced at 130k miles, for $3100. Not sure what year his Subaru is.
