True. An EX for $18,000 or less is a very hot deal.

The only reason I'd ever want an EX is solely because of resale value ... the SE has everything that I want.

Yes, I did get it at that price w/ the destination included. The loss-leader ad I took into my dealer from another dealer actually advertised them for $16,700. Some dealers in the area were more aggressive than others. The dealers I mentioned earlier would be good ones to contact. Just remember that the sales price can be good, but many dealers will try to screw you over on the loan. Don't go for it. I went in prepared to pay cash and well-informed about Honda's special financing.

Guess what, Buena Park Internet Fleet Manager emailed me back again with Spoiler and floormats, she said the best she can do is $17,977 incl. spoiler and floormats. Is this sounds ok to you guys?

Yeah, I talked to my sales today, they said if u can bring a copy of your friend's contract, we can match the price. So Durracell, can you please fax me your "purchase contract for your Accord EX" ? Thanks!

If this is for a 2002 Honda Accord SE, 4 door sedan with automatic transmission then I'd go for it. A dealer installed spoiler costs around $800, floormats are around $79 I think.

is the spoiler thing really good? no offense but kind of ugly IMO.

It's a matter of personal taste, I really like spoilers on 1992 era Honda Accords they look really nice.

However I like the strong clean lines on my 2002 Honda Accord SE, a spoiler would just ruin that.

Thanks for all the tips (come to expect that from Rossman!!)

Here is what we just got (only 2 available SE that I could find in the Lawrence/KC area..)

Honda Accord SE 4dr Sedan - $17,400
Destination: 460
Documentation Fees: $39

Final Cost: ~$17, 890 (-$3450 from MSRP)

Not quite the deal everyone got, but they gave me $1700 for our POS 1997 Taurus with 125K on it with a faulty transmission that would have cost at least $2000 to replace. Also, it was about what we wanted to pay (3%) from the dealer's actual cost is.

We figured better to invest in a Honda and snatch the last one most dealer had before haggling over about $200.

Again, this forum rocks and couldn't have done it without the input from everyone!!

Epinephrine - First of all congratulations on your purchase. If you properly maintain and take good care of your new Accord it will easily last 20 years and is way better than the Ford Taurus.

$17,890 isn't that bad of a deal considering new 2003 LX's are going for well over $18,000

I love the extra's the SE has over the LX, power moonroof, alloy wheels, drivers side power seat and 1-2 other things I can't recall.

What color did you get? We got ruby pearl red since that's my wife's birthstone color, it looked nice and it was one of the last ones.

Thanks Rossman,

We got the silver version as the boss said she liked it. Plus, she commutes about 100 miles per day and has baby #2 in the cooker, so I am depending on ole Honda to be reliable and get her safely home.

Thanks again...

If it were up to me I would have bought a silver SE as well. My previous car (94 Toyota Corolla) was also red (had no choice bought it used) and now I have another red car.

I firmly told the wife "our next car will NOT be RED!!!" she said "we'll see about that".

LOL

So I guess $17,367 (included destination charge) is actually a nice deal. Guys, wish me luck tomorrow.. I am getting my Black/Black SE Coupe... Thanks so much for all your help.

Heh, by the way OJEDAWC, not buying a car that's good, just because it gets stolen(because it *is* good) and instead buying the worst piece of junk that nobody would care to steal, is a pretty stupid idea. We might as well never buy anything nice for ourselves, because it'll get stolen! Why buy a nice TV, nice car, nice computer, when you can buy garbage! 13" RCA TV here I come!

Seriously, you could buy a $80 486 laptop and nobody would steal it, but what's the point of that?

Seems like a good deal. My friend just bought one for $18,500 about 5 months ago. And she thought she was at rock bottom, heh. I would negotiate the price for another grand off or so since it's a 2002 year end model, heard the 2003's (that is not the se) is suppose to be really nice! Stick to your guns! Don't be intimidated by the sales manager : )

Marukoo- I hope you checked the Register this morning as I suggested...
Costa Mesa Honda - two loss leader auto EX sedans for 16,688! Even if you pay another $300-$500 in ad-ons or to get another color, that's one great deal.

Wow that's a killer hot deal even better than my personal favorite (LX automatic for $15,544).

I'd buy it.

Durracell, I just called Costa Mesa Honda, they said it's typo, is for 5speed only. And for the EX 4-cyl w/o leather. He said it's about 22k. Then I told him forget it. What a dishonesty dealer. The sales person I talked sounds like Arabian.

If you're really thrifty about cars (ie., aren't an enthusiast) than go ahead. The new for '03 Accord is supposed to be a signifigant improvement. I got a 2001 LX as a loaner recently (I drive a 93 Prelude VTEC) and was surprised at the road noise and firmness of the suspension damping. I guess that's to be expected in a $17k car but I wasn't all that impressed. I could never buy a closeout car when the new one is so much better...
