Routine maintanence on the late model escorts SUCKS!!!!!

Toyota Corolla

Taken care of properly it will run circles around the Ford and it does come with a longer warranty.

Thank you all for the feedback. If this was a poll, the toyota is the car of choice and most of you echoed where I am leaning to. I only hesitated because the ford as a newer vehicle.

wow a bunch of mis information.

the Ford ZX2 started as the Escort zx2. they droped the name escort (offically). the ZX2 only comes in a 2 door.

that model Escort is great. my wife has a 97 escort and we have yet to have any problems. If they still made it i would really think about getting that. The focus is ugly and has way to many recalls on it.

the corolla aint to much better. but some people refuse to buy fords even though they are pretty good cars. granted they are not on par with honda or the camery but they are pretty close.

Thank you waggy for straightening these people out... btw, ZX2s are still being made (although their future is questionable I hear) but the Escort was killed off. So 2002 must be the last version of the car. I'm driving a 1999 Escort ZX2 now and it's a great little car. No complaints from me.
Ford has a pretty lousy reputation for quality but that isn't deserved for the later Fords. They got their act together in the mid-90s I think. Unfortunately though, lately it seems that Ford is returning to its sucky ways with that big Focus recall and the delay in the Mustang Cobra.
Even though I'm ok with Ford, I'd still get the Toyota cuz of the longer warranty.
Whatever you buy, hope you enjoy the car.

Half an hour job at most if you know what you're doing (and I don't even have ramps or a jack)...main trick is the acrobatics required to get the oil filter out without dumping it's contents all over the engine.

The "Camry" is a Toyota like the Corolla, and is not "pretty close" statistically to Ford in terms of reliable build quality. The Focus had 11 recalls on it the last time I checked, it is probably higher by now. Why would you buy from a company who produces garbage like that?
