I was watching Top Gear BBC and they had an episode of what they could buy with 6500 pounds. Jeremy came up with CL600. I thought that was an amazing car for such a small price. This might be my next car in 2 years if I get a job close to my home.

What do you guys think of the car? I was thinking of moving to the 2003 CL since it has the twin turbo and you can change the ECU to make more then 600hp.

on ebay they are even cheaper. I don't know how reliable they are but I could def see them being expensive to repair.

The CL600 is a great, but dated car. The auto trans isn't as nice as modern gear and jerky at times.

Also it's a very expensive car to repair when things go south. If it's well maintained then it should last a good lifetime, I'd only target the lowest mile ones. I was looking into one not long ago, but I didn't like the way it shifted nor the more 'professional' than 'sporty' interior.

There are forums dedicated to the model that would be the best to post on to get the pros and cons.

Its smart to always factor in total cost of ownership on cars like the above. If you are handy and do LOTS on your own you too can own a tempermental diva that goes like crazy when you step on it.

I do most of my maintence and change out parts as much as I can and outside of a freak lost engine in a 320i a lifetime ago ive had good luck.

The secret to sports cars is to either get low miles or at least get one that has been babied and not beaten. People freak out when they have to catch up on some stuff with used cars. Factor in regular maintenance and a reserve should something go wrong with any used car.

Ive owned 2002s 320is 280Zs as well as two fantastic turbo diesels when I lived in Europe and in South America.

Do it yourself bra

If you couldn't afford to buy this car new you probably can't afford to maintain it.

If the car is not built to honda quality than yes there is no way I could afford this as my daily driver. But as a weekend car with 600hp/loaded I think 15k is a pretty good deal. My friends merecedes do hold up rather well. However they don't have the V12 beast. That drivetrain could be as worhtless as a ford transmission and a Kia engine.

I will keep my acura tl as my daily driver, until that thing dies at 250k mileage which will be a long time.

Funny you should mention that considering C&D's article above.

"Yes, these two-door S-classes may be easy to acquire for our target price, but it takes more euros to keep them roadworthy—sometimes many more. McGowan bought his 105K-mile example two years ago for about 14 grand. Since then, he and his mechanic have worked through a prioritized fix-it list focused on drivability—specifically in connection with the sophisticated suspension, a common trouble source. Repair costs are quickly approaching the purchase price.

As with its inauspicious arrival, McGowan’s CL didn’t leave the party in South Haven without incident. One electrical short, two days in the shop, and $1100 later, it was back on the road, still looking as impressive as ever."

avoid the V12 TT -

Stick to the CL55 Kompressor

The first gen CL - the big body benz are gorgeous in the two tone blk/gry. I miss the styling of the old Benz's.
