The all-road is nice, but I HATE the black plastic bumpers...especially on a vehicle THAT expensive and one that WON'T ever see any off-road action.

That beautiful 2.7L TT under the hood, that's what. I also prefer the styling better over the base A6 wagon.

Why not get Audi S4 Avant? About the same price, but it has better performance. And I'm pretty sure it drives better too.

The S4/A4 has a virtually non-existant back seat, and the cargo space is no where near as big as the A6 based allroad. The allroad also has much better ground clearance than the A4/S4 which is very useful in the winters around here when 6" of snow on some of the roads I have to drive is not uncommon.

I'm so glad that the Germans are offering all of these exceptional cars in both sedan and wagon form. Seems like the old Griswald persona of the station wagon is finally going away. I'd love to have a previous-gen A4 Avant.

It does? I bet you can fit adults there nicely. If not, they must be pretty huge adults.

Do you really need all that space? Do you reguralry haul lots and lots of stuff?

Well, I have seen S4's in the middle of winter in Finland, so I guess they could handle your winter as well .

I love the new A4 Avant and certainly wouldn't mind having one of these in college! I think it'd be perfect to haul all my stuff. Here's a sweet photo of a tuned one!

Ummmmm, no. Audi A4 shares platform with VW Passat. A4 is a bit smaller than Passat but definitely bigger than Jetta/Bora. And I guess that applies to S4 as well.

And what do you mean you can't fit adults in the backseat of Bora/Jetta? Are all adults in USA 2 meters tall and weight 200 kilos? I mean, sheesh! I have been in the backseat of the previous model Golf and I fit in there without problems, and I'm 193cm tall!

I find that rather strange. My brother has that previous model Golf I mentioned (before that he had even earlier Golf-model and even there I fit in the backseat), and I have no problems sitting in the front. And the modern Golf/Bora/Jetta has even more space in the front.

Actually, the Jetta is slightly roomier than the A4 in the back.

Rear Headroom - A4 - 36.8 inches, Jetta - 36.9 inches

Speaking as someone who currently owns an S4, allow me to offer up my opinions of its backseat:

It's friggin tight back there, especially behind the driver's seat. I'm "only" 6'0", under no circumstances am I able to drive in my regular seating position if I've got a passenger sitting behind me. It's impossible for them to even fenagle their feet between the back of my seat and their seat. Is it tolerable for short trips? Sure, but there's no way in hell I'd ever want to ride in the back seat of my car for more that 20 minutes.

There is no possible way you would be comfortable in my back seat Nemesis, no way. You might be able to shoehorn your way back there, getting in the back seat is the easy part....just try to get out, LOL.

Corn pretty much summed up my feelings on the back seat of the A4/S4. It works for a carseat and maybe a 5 year old, but anything more than that, and it's useless. I need to be able to move 4 adults in comfort, so the A4 is out of the question. That's why the Allroad interests me, although, a slightly used W8 wagon may be option in a year or two. Maintanence costs concern me though on the W8.

Again, I find that REALLY surprising. I have seen Bora and A4 in real life several times, and A4 is clearly bigger of the two.

I have spent quite alot of time in the backseat of model II VW Golf (3-door version). And I can assure you that that car is considerably smaller than Audi A4. I had no problems getting in or getting out of it (even though it was 3-door car). I have spent quite alot of time in model III VW Golf (5-door version). I fit in there comfortably. I'm 193cm tall and I weight about 100kg.

But, I have noticed that americans seem to require humungous cars for some reason. Why that is, I have no idea.

i thought jetta/golf/passat/a4/tt were all based on the same platform?


anyhow, i have to put the seat all the way back in the jetta because i have long legs, else i bump the steering wheel all the time. theres not much room back there when its like that. a proper tilt feature on the steering wheel would fix that, but like japanese cars the wheel really only tilts down.
