2001FPW vs 2005FPW

I am struggling on which one to get. will I get more viewable area on 2001fpw vs the widesreen 2005fpw? Also i wan't able to find both lcd response time. I am 60% games and 40% movies.

Be great if someone can help me out here. Also a pictures of your 2001fpw and 2005fpw in max resolution will be very helpful!

But there are games that just don't so I would consider that fact if you're a gamer.
 
2001fp has a larger viewable area.


2005fpw = 1,764,000 pixels

2001fp = 1,920,000 pixels

So roughly 10% more pixels.

2405fpw = 2,304,000 pixels

Every FPS, RTS, MMoRPG I play supports WS wether through native support or an INI alteration, hell even Quake 2 supports WS through a hack.

It's almost a non issue now, and yes BF2 supports it just not natively.
 
I like my 2001fp, but if the 2005fpw was available back then I would have gotten it instead.
 
Yea, I know these two LCDs are very nice. But I can't imagine how the grahics is going do compare to what I have (19" NEC diamondpro 930SB)

The 2001FP has always been about $50 more than the 2005FPW, so that was a big reason for me, but gaming WS is AWESOME.


As for comparison to a CRT, I think they are on par. I upgraded from a Samsung 900NF which was arguably one of the best 19" CRTs back in the day for a reasonable price. It has the DiamondTron AG tube like NECs and Mitsubishi CRTs. However, the 2005FPW is widescreen, takes up much less space and is lighter (this was actually a big issue for me, I have a small desk, and it sucks having to sit close to a monitor, bad for the eyes as well, plus I actually have room to do work in front of me), less power and heat.

As for actual color reproduction and whatnot, I did not have the chance to hook up my 900NF right next to the 2005FPW, however I would say there are on par. The LCD is easier on the eyes to look at (one the brightness is turned WAY down), but the 900NF may've still have an edge in vibrant and accurate colors IIRC. Still, all of the other advantages to the 2005FPW make me VERY happy that I upgraded (and plus I gave the parent's the 900NF).

...and buy your games accordingly... You shouldn't limit your hardware because some developers are stuck in 1995...

This isn't that difficult. There are few trade off with either tech...

The LCD will be completely flicker free, the text will be exceptionally clear, and it will take up a lot less space. In the otherhand, it will ghost slightly compared to a CRT (I have not seen one that doesn't), and the dark colors and black won't be quite as deep as they are with a CRT. Basically, it comes down to what you are willing to sacrifice...

In my experience: I was a bit reluctant to switch to an LCD, but there are very few (if any) widescreen CRT's actually available for purchase anymore. Plus, the 2005FPW can be picked up for relatively cheap with a bit of coupon research and patience. After havning owned an LCD since Jan, I will never, ever go back. I pretty much hate every CRT I look at. It really is a mater of personal preference though.

If you want to get a rough idea of what a 2005FPW will be like, go to any place that sells macs, as the panel on the 20" Cinema display and the Dell 2005FPW are the same one. This will give you a very good idea of the image quality to expect and the size.

I agree with you there. Although the 2001FP does have a bit larger viewing area, for games, I'd take the Widescreen monitor 10 times out of 10. Widescreen gaming is just much superior, IMO, and the industry is gearing towards more and more widescreen games. The perspective is much more akin to how we see things in the real world, and the film industry has been using widescreen to great effect for years. There's a reason pretty much all cutscenes in games are widescreen already.

With that said, if you do lots of work on that screen (and don't game much), I'd probably recommend the 2001FP. If you watch a fair bit of movies and play some games, the Widescreen will give you the better experience.

Just remember that when watching 4:3 content and playing 4:3 only games, that 20" widescreen becomes akin to a 17" screen 😉 .
 
Yea, I am going with 2005fpw!!
Also I am just wondering what will it looks like when I dual monitor the 2005fpw and my 19" CRT.
