2001FP People. Are you blind? This screen SUCKS!

That's the screen door effect that people talk about. I can see it to. That's why you should have gotten a Samsung 213t instead. 😛

Wow what a perfect description for it! It looks like there's a screen door in front of my picture lol! Right on the nail. So nothing that can be done about that I take it?

Anyone played aorund with the "Advanced Timing" features on the Nvidia drivers?
 
Just return in and try something else, apparantly the 2001FP is not for you.

I have not experienced any of the problems you described with my 2001FP and I am not alone. 🙂

I came from a Sony G520P 21" monitor , I bought it new and kept it 2 years before getting the 2001FP.

I was so used to the Sony that when I switch to the 2001FP every single little difference was obvious, my initial impression was that my 2D had improved, text was sharper, colors were more vibrant , geometry was perfect.

The Sony blows away any CRT I have ever seen so this is saying alot.

 
I wanted to add that the screen door you guys are seeing is an unavoidable byproduct of LCD technology, try sitting further away from you screen if it bothers you.

The way the screen door effect is avoided is by making the pixels smaller (BTW pixels dont get much smaller than those on the 2001FP) and by defocusing the picture. 🙂

Yep, those wonderful LCDs that you dont see any screendoor on are just fuzz boxes. 🙂

The 2001FP is the sharpest LCD I have ever laid eyes on, they just dont get much better for 2D and text. 🙂

 
Just upload a video driver with sharpness controls on it , fuzz it up a notch and the screen door will disappear. 🙂

 
Yeah I just came from a nice 21" to the 2001FP
The screen door was very noticeable, a lot more than my old 15" analog benq, and my sony 15".
The picture is plain GRAINY.

There are LCDs with nice deep blacks and no screen door effects, the ones with the flat glass on them.

Also to the 2001FP owners, scroll up and down in anandtech forums at a pretty fast pace. You will notice that the bars on the layout tears apart, instead of moving smoothly in one piece.

I notice this a lot in gaming.
 
I had a Dell flat panel that recently looked like that at one point as well.(not a 2001FP) It turned out that all I had to do was manually adjust all of the sync parameters as the auto ones did a pretty sucky job of matching the input signal. After about 5 minutes of playing around it's as clear and bright as can be. It may something else to try quickly if you haven't as well. I was using an analog input, though, so I'm not sure if this applies to DVI as well.
 
I think you had bad luck, just return it and get your money back. I have one also and don't have any dead/stuck pixels & text is super clear.
I'm running win2k w/ the latest nvidia drivers.

different people's eyes are more or less sensetive to what they see in the same monitor.

but yeah, like people are saying, the 2001fp is extremely sharp, unfortunately your (and my) eyes are good enough to be annoyed by the sharpness as we see the screen effect, same effect as many overhead projectors...

that's why i don't plan on replacing my 21" CRT for quite a while longer... i still can't find any LCD that will match it in clarity/detail/color/refresh/etc.

to each their own.

Spot on assessment, especially regarding making the pixels smaller to decrease the screen door effect. My 14.1"laptop at 1400x1050 shows no screen door effect due to the small dot pitch of the pixels. I am happy with my 2001FP but will definitely be glad when 20" displays move to 1920x1440 resolution.

 
what videocard are you using? it could very well be that. the first 6800 i got had terrible 2d quality but the 2nd one looks better than my 9800pro. using a samsung 712n btw.
 
I'm using a Geforce 5900.

there are lcd's out there that do not have the screen door effect. I know for a fact the Planars dont, though like someone mentioned above, the refresh rate is not that of the 2001FP. So when it comes down to it, you have to give up 2d quality to play 3d games, or vice-versa.

I know the effect you are describing, and went to all ends to avoid it on my first ever LCD - a Sager lappy with WUXGA. That means 1920x1200 resolution on a 15 inch screen 🙂 You have to get really close to it to see the lines between the pixels.
 
I have not seen the Dell but I think I saw the same panel in the equivalent Viewsonic today and remembered the complaints in this and other forums. I agree the image quality is relatively poor due to that screen door effect. I don't understand why it is like that though since the resolution is 25% greater than 1280 but the size is only 18% greater than a 17" which typically sport said 1280. If anything one would expect it to better, not worse.

And you are getting no screen door at the expense of sharpness..you are fooling yourself if you think otherwise.

Go ahead and get a Planar, if youve spent enough time with the 2001FP by then , then you will see the difference.


Heck look at the glowing reviews on the Viewsonic VP201s which is said to be the same panel used in the 2001FP...

the lcd panel i use, looks a bit overly sharp at 60hz refresh.. i didnt like the image, especially the whites.. they were crystal clear and featureless (as a white panel usually is)

i bumped the refresh to 75 and the screen became a lot nicer to look at; the white panels had a sort of snow-like sparkle to them, which broke up the uniformity.. it probably softened the image off a little, and i find it a lot more tolerable to look at

i guess you could say that 60hz on my panel, is like looking at white plastic, 75hz is like looking at white paper.. theres a sort of matte quality to it.. nicer.

have you tried adjusting the refresh? (and playing with the geometry yourself)

I was just thinking non-60Hz refresh on an LCD was weird, but noticed the Dell specs actually mention having presets for 75Hz at some resolutions:
720x400 @ 70.1 Hz, 640x480 @ 59.9 Hz, 640x480 @ 75 Hz, 800x600 @ 60.3 Hz, 800x600 @ 75 Hz, 1024x768 @ 60 Hz, 1024x768 @ 75 Hz, 1152x864 @ 75 Hz, 1280x1024 @ 60 Hz, 1280x1024 @ 75 Hz, 1600x1200 @ 60 Hz

So gues not that weird. ^^

I have a Samsung 213t and am very happy with it. No screen doors here 😀

BTW, Viper96720, Hard forums had a lengthy rant thread about the 2001FP. The guy posted pictures of Screen door, pixel defects, and a wierd image burn in.
