2001FP huge problems...

Alright, dunno were to really start with this, but here we go.

I got a 2001FP for X-Mas. Hooked it up and couldn't believe the rich colors and size, but from that moment it went down hill.

Running it with the DVI cable and a 6600GT.

Normal usage. Faintly Blurred. I can't get the screen to look sharp at all. I get a headache within 10 minutes just browsing the internet. Even in the native 1600x1200. I played with the settings to no avail.

Gaming. Unbelieveable colors that are so rich and clear. I tried every resolution and settings in COD UO and TW2005 and get a headache within 5 minutes of game play. Blurred play and seems hesitant with every move of the mouse.

My 3 year old CTX 19" CRT is now back on my desk after about 24hrs of the 2001FP. I can sit behind the 19" for hours and hours and never even get a hint of a headache. With everything that I have read and all the research I have done on a LCD, I was really looking forward to the 2001FP. Bummin here.

Any ideas? Think this is a Warranty issue? Should I try hooking it up D-Sub analog just to see what it does? Call Dell?

mine doesnt do that. but I did have to take some time to get use to the brightness of it though
 
you might just have to get used to it, any LCD is a step down from a good CRT- i dont notice blurryness browsing, you might just want to call dell's tech support. try the vga cable usually dvi is better
 
I've used other LCD's before at work without a problem. All of the ones I have looked at in the retail stores (different brands and sizes) do not have the problems I am having with this 2001FP.

I know that DVI is better than the analog. DVI restricts the tweaking abilities in the OSD. So I'm going to try the Analog just to see if I can get it any better by tweaking it.
 
You should definately try it out on a different computer, just in case it somethings bad with the DVI output on the video card. Wouldn't hurt to try the analog input either...
 
I have a 2001FP at work and at home, and in both cases the monitors are far superior to my older CRTs in terms of clarity and comfort on the eyes. What you are experiencing simply should not be happening. It sounds like you've got a defective LCD, but try it on another computer first just to make sure.
 
You're one of the weird people that can't use LCD. For small percentage of people, LCDs give them headaches and eye strain similar to what most normal people suffer from CRTs.

Return the LCD and stick with your CRT.

I have this problem. . . I have a 17" LCD at work that I have to look away from every 15 minutes. But I can sit in front of my 8 year old 19" CRT at home for hours on end. Hope they come out with something new soon, cause CRT's are a dieing breed.
 
You need to keep the brightness WAY lower with LCDs.

When using NVidia cards with high resolution DVI panels, you need to know that the DVI signal directly from the main NVidia chips has poor signal integrity, and will not yield a proper display quality. You need to use an ATi card, or an NVidia card whose developpers knew that and added a discrete transmitter chip, ignoring NVidia's integrated one.

Yes we can only hope. Even the top end LCDs lack compared to the middle of the road CRTs and they are 2-4x times the price.

I disagree, I much prefered the 2001fp over the nec 2141sb. It's all dependant upon the user, imo.

I have this problem with low quality LCDs, like the dim ones usually found on cheap 15" LCDs and laptops. Dim with huge screendoors.
On my 2001FP, I don't get any eyestrain, just like my old CRTs.
 
Try turning the brightness way down. I noticed at stock settings newer LCD's make white text pages look absolutely radioactive.
 
Mine was built Aug 2004 and says Rev A00.

I put it on the wife's computer using analog, and it is still terrible. She sat down for about 5 minutes and had to get up also. 🙁
 
August? that's a pretty old panel to be shipped out for christmas.

Mine was built in november (same month I ordered it)

I have none of the problems you've described which leads me to believe somethings not right with the panel since it's giving you problems on two dif pc's.
 
erh,, what videocard does your wife have?,, and did you try the analog on your 6600GT?
Becaues if your wife have a old video card it might not do well at 1600 x 1200.
Did you try reseting to factroy default on the DELL LCD?
What drivers are you running , did you try install new drivers for your videocard?



If all those fail, it's time for you to call DELL and talk to some of their oversea CSR.

Sounds like your 2001FP is FUBARED, send it back now before the warranty expires.
 
I discovered this monitor runs on a cheap 5200FX... looked great too. If anything looks fuzzy... it should be returned... it definately should not look fuzzy ever. Maybe it your video card so you should try it on another PC... but, if it's the same on 2 PC's..ship it back and yell and scream and jump up and down until ya' got a new one ;-)

After playing with it I got it working fine. Absolutely awesome except for it isn't quite up to speed for me on gaming. So I am reverting back to my CRT. I am going to miss the brilliant colors, that's for sure.🙁
