I'm thinking of getting a 2001FP monitor in the near future to replace my big old 19" samsung 900NF. I have a winfast tv tuner card and usually watch tv on my monitor and its been fine. I am also going to be buying an xbox or ps2 relatively soon and was wondering, do i need to hook up the console through the line in on my tuner card or video card, or can i hook the video out from the console directly into the 2001FP. Also, will the console look ok on the 2001FP or is it going to look like crap because of the resolution or anything. I don't really know to much about this and was wondering if anyone could offer some help. Thanks.

2001fp has composite and Svideo inputs. I don't think it would look perfect due to the resolution though.

edit: I searched another forums and supposedly the xbox looks good with a vga adapter on it.

I have an Xbox and I purchased a cable that adds svideo to the outputs for my xbox and I directly connect it to my 2001FP. Works great... WAY better video quality then going through my WinFast TV2000 XP Deluxe.

I'm doing this exact thing. I play both my Gamecube and Xbox on it. While it is quite good (much better than tv tuner cards), it does have its problems. First of all, the colors seem a bit washed out at times (the Gamecube looks vibrant and great almost all the time, while some games look a little washed out on the Xbox). The other problem is that it is kinda small. Other than that its not a bad choice. If you play alone, then it'd be fine.

I also have hooked up my Xbox through an HD VGA adapter. It looks noticeably better, with most of the washed out look being taken care of. I don't think its worth the added cost though.

I'm seeing on hardforums some problem with the PS2 looking like crap, something about needing a VGA adapter or deinterlacer?

I'd mostly be playing fullscreen. Madden, NCAA, grand theft auto (if i go PS2). I'm in a small room where space is a premium, so i'm trying to get rid of the crt and save space with an lcd but also be able to hook a console up and have it look good (ideally as good as on a normal tv).

Do you have friends that would want to play with you?

Yeah, but it would mostly be on games like madden or fifa2k5 where its still gonna be in full screen regardless of how many players.

oh ok, then it shouldn't be a problem. but also keep in mind everyone would have to be sitting pretty close

i was going to hook the sound up to the line in on my sound card and use my promedia 2.1s, will this work? Also, because i am close to a complete idiot with this stuff, what exactly will i need to do (wires, adapters, ...) in hooking up the xbox or ps2 to the 2001FP. If someone could just break it down into a "howto for idiots" in a few brief steps for me I'd appreciate it. I want whatever is gonna look the best cause I've heard the consoles can look craptastic on monitors if you do it wrong. Thanks again.

Have the S-Video or standard composite adapter for the Xbox (S-Video preferred). Then hook up your Xbox like you would normally. Then just plug the video cable into the S-Video/composite input of the 2001FP.

I believe you'll need an adapter to have your RCA cables into miniplug for the sound. I have one and forget if I got it with my card or what.

Thats a pretty crappy guide, so I'll try to make it better here in a bit if you need me to.

I have a sound adapter. Does the xbox/ps2 come with an svideo cable or would i need to aquire one seperately. Also, what are people talking about with VGA adapter or deinterlacer to make the quality better?

You'd need to get the S-Video adapter for the Xbox and/or PS2. The consoles only come with the standard composite cable.

With a VGA adapter or de-interlacer (effectively a video processor) you could get higher resolutions than with S-Video or composite). Video processors are rather expensive. Most VGA adapters either require component input from the console or plug directly into the console itself.

That first cable at Buy.com I don't think will work at all.

Personally, I'd just go with the S-Video cables, as the quality increase isn't great enought to spend $20+ on cabels and even more for the adapter that lets you play with them. If it was a large HDTV I'd say go for it as it'll help a lot more there, but on the smaller screen the difference just isn't large enough.

ok, so that last cable is all i need to hook up a ps2 directly into the s-video in port on the LCD monitor and it should look ok?

Yeah, its a bit grainy. I have my Xbox hooked up to my 2001FP through this. It works, but it really shows off that this monitor just can't do any resolutions beyond its native very well. Personally I don't really care, I use this setup because of its ease of use.
