Looking for a 2nd car... This guy is selling one with 126k miles on it for $4100. What should I look out for when I go look at it tomorrow?

Should be an I35 for 2001, IIRC, I30s were only till 1999.

I have an I30, other than the injectors needing replacement at 100k miles and the alternator at 95k its been solid.

I30s were until 2001 and it changed to VQ35DE in 2002 (both Maxima and Infiniti I series)...

SO I saw the car today. Mechanically it seems fine. Valve cover(s) (the front one leaks, I'm assuming the back one does too) leak some oil and it's dirty, and the front leather seats are ripped up. I guess there is a reason why he is selling it @ fair condition on kbb.

One thing I noticed, though, the doors did not have a VIN# sticker like most of the cars I have seen. Is that normal for infinitis?

my 2000 i30 sold for 6k about two years ago
solid cars, but from what you described that one isnt in great shape

i'd crosshop 2000-2001 I30, 2002-2003 I35, and same year Maximas

go for a 2002, with the 3.5 engine, you'll pay probably just a bit more. Seems like hte one you are looking at is not right

Go for it... 01 and earlier are less prone to pre-cat failure and oil burning.

The VQ30DE-K engine (00/01 only) is probably the best engine ever in that entire series of cars. The 3.5 is good, but has issues that the VQ30 doesn't.

01's are probably my favorite overall. I do like I35's too, but the 3.0 engine is better if you like cars that are turn-key.

Never heard about this, Do you have some links/discussions you can PM to me? I have an 02 I35 myself.

I have a 2001 i30 with 125k on it (my daily driver). I bought it pre-owned from Car Max 5 years ago with 30k on it.

In the past 5 years and 95k that I've put on it, these have been my only issues:

Warped rotors (I guess this was a common issue for i30's and their sister Maxima of the same era). This car requires quality brake parts.
Early on (between 30-60k), the o2 sensors gradually all needed replaced. The factory replacements have all held up.
Alternator died last year.
That's about it. It's a very comfortable car. Love the VQ30DE-K. I hope to drive it for another 5 or 10 years.

That price sounds fair to me.

cars are good. small little problems here and there like with any car. I think Idle air valves are an minor issue but once you replace them they are good to go. rarely any work is needed.

Just peruse Maxima.org... The I35 and Maxima are essentially the same car and most if not all the powertrain related information is identical.

Buy mine, its for sale.

2000 I30t, pearl white, tan leather, tinted windows, very clean and clean carfax. 158k and I'm near Kansas City.

Pearl white ftw. It is my favorite by far...

Thank you. It looks great after a coat or 3 of zaino has been put on it. It just shines and shines.

I'm only asking 5200.00 for it. 🙂 The desparity between NADA and KBB/Edmunds on the I30 is crazy. About a 2000 dollar difference.

~slag~

Used car prices here are so low. Around here that would be overpriced.
I only paid $5500 CDN for my 2002 Maxima fully loaded, and it had just short of 100k miles (March this year)

I personally love it, helps for capitalizing on bargains.
