2000 disc usage

Need to ask about one thing in 2000 that I just dont get, might be my sys but here goes. I got two drives, one new with the OS and and an older one where I store stuff that is not used much. Now for some &¤¤"" reson when I, for example, create a folder or document on the desktop and the older drive has gone to sleep the machine freezes while everyone waits for the drive that isnt used spins up. Anyone know why this happens? The drives are not even on the same controller. Starting to make me mad.

I have a similar situation with my machine at work. 13GB Maxtor IDE with OSes and personal files and a 36GB IBM SCSI with downloads.

I have observed that if the SCSI drive is accessed while I am logged in, it will spin up the next time I log in (even if it was after a weekend of sleeping). So, whenever it spins up and I have no intentions of using it, I log out, log in and log out again without accessing the drive, and then log in again. Even though the drive may be spinning at that "third" login session, it will stay off until it is accessed directly. Strange, but true.

I hope to go all-SCSI with my next machine at work with this 36GB as my main drive. I'll then have a U160 73GB monster to store downloads. 🙂 Let's hear that bad boy spin up!
