I looked at that one when I bought my monitor and to me the colors seemed a bit oversaturated for my taste. What I wound up getting was a Viewsonic A90f+, which has truer colors to me and an Ultrabright mode that is a great for games/DVD movies. The only downside to it is that it can't handle 1280x1024 at 85Hz, but neither can the 955DF.

i went through 2 955DF's and took em both back, the picture was not perfect... it was visible one side was a mm or so smaller than the other... may just have been bad luck... but i get a lot crisper feel out of my 4yr old refurb gateway ev910

OK, I will ask again, even though somebody else asked I think, why are you getting a P4, when you primarily game ? The AMD Athlon64 has shown, and is a widely accepted fact, that it is better than a P4 for gaming. An Athlon64 3000+ can beat a P4 3.2 in almost every game benchmark. And If you OC it, even a little, it can beat a 3.4 P4 !

If you want recomendations on this line, reply, and I can help you......

Nice choice on the monitor, RadioHead84. That P95f+B is a sweet monitor, and it can pull some nice refresh rates at high resolutions. Whne I get the cash, I might have to get one of those and move my A90f+ down to my secondary. The removable monitor cable is a nice touch. Hard to find any CRTs any more that don't have it hardwired in.

spend 1000 on the computer
buy an Aeron chair....you will still have the chair, long after you have thrown out this computer....
if your not into comfort...
second idea would be get a 2001fp monitor LCD ~ 750.00

personally, i would get the aeron, the 20" dell lcd, and get a 2.8 ghz dell for <$400..most "bang" for the buck...

spend the least on the computer (it will be outdated in 6-12 months anyhow), the monitor and the chair ill last you for 5-10 years at least..

my aeron is 7 years old and going strong.loks brand new..
my 21" CRT momnitor from 10 years ago still looks great, and my son uses it now (i got the 2001fp!!)

my computer? it's been replaced 3 times in the last 10 years....

 True

even better, invest in a stable mutual fund (can get 20-30% annual return even in today's market), then use the interest to get yourself a nice $200-$300 upgrade next year, and you'll STILL have your $1000🙂

lol way to much accounting for us college folk...we are impatiant...and while you guyus know what is best since youve might have gone through it already......we still wont listen lol

Crimson.... 30%????? There is no way you can get a guaranteed 20-30% return on an investment. If you are, please let me know what it is because I would jump on that in a second.... as would everyone else in the world. Hell... if anyone could even guarantee a 10% return, it would be the most heavily used investment ever.

Anyway, scratch the P4 unless you have a really strong aversion to AMD. The 3200+ AMD 64 with standard heatsink is the way to go, I think.
RAM- any mushkin or OCZ should be good right now. The one you picked looks great.
GPU- I would wait about a month and grab the 9800 Pro when it comes down a little. Even if it doesnt, it is still a damn good card and at least $200 less than the X800. Grab the X800, or its advancement, in like 6 months to a year, or just stick with the 9800 until it becomes too weak.
Board- Read the reviews here. The nForce-250 seems to be coming out in mass now. Just find whichever gives you what you want.
Monitor- I wouldnt get anything bigger than 19" unless you have a giant need to spend money. I personally think that anything bigger than that is just a waste. And really, who needs to play a game at 1600x1200. I have no doubt it look awesome, but I just find it overkill.

Best of luck.

I understand you want to get a sweet kickass computer but don't do it. Do this

Processor - Athlon xp 3200+
Mobo- abit nf7 v2
Ram- 1.5 gig 333mhz pc2700 ddr
Video Card- 9800 pro
Monitor - dell/sony/whatever 19 inch flatpanel
Heatsink - idk

There is a system that will cost you 1200 or so (most of it in the flat panel). I would focus on going dual flat panel instead of getting the absolute best components money can buy.

Good idea. Two 19" monitors are in most cases a LOT better than one 21" one that is 2X the price, especially if you are a multi-tasker.

1.5GB of RAM is a bit of overkill for most games right now, though. I'd say get 1GB now, and pick up another 512MB stick when the prices eventually go down. And if you're going the Athlon XP route, why buy a 3200+ when an AXP mobile will pretty much give you a guaranteed 2.4GHz with decent cooling and good RAM?

If you can wait a bit for more boards to come out I'd suggest

AMD 64 2800-3200
Abit/Asus/Gigabyte with nForce-250G/250 chipset or Via K8T800 Pro chipset
1Gig quality ram OCZ/Corsair/Crucial/Mushkin
X800 Pro or X800 PE

Good luck

no reason to go dual panels if it is 80% gaming and 20% browsing/chatting. imo

Don't get the P4, don't get the 9800 XT. Might as well get the X800 pro for that price.
