with a $10 or $15 off coupon these would be okay. Who cares if it's only 6X.

just wondering if anyone knows if these can record faster than 6x? On the imation deal at outpost those were/are 4x and several people said they can burn faster than 4x. Also, can anyone confirm which kodaks these are? i'm still thinking they're probably the gold/silver ones. If so, do they have infoguard? I'm pretty sure they are not kodak gold ultimas or they'd have said something in the description. If these were the gold ultimas then this would be a great deal, but if they are the gold/silver it may not be. I've not priced the gold/silvers (i only have bought the gold ultimas) so don't know if this is a good deal...taserT

I guess these are it, provided buy.com and this other place are using the right product numbers
kodak gold ultima 650mb 200 pack

These probably work above 6x. Kodak used to use mitsui's dye for their gold infoguard cds a long time ago (they might still- no clue), mitsui's usually burn above 6x

Main thing is they're a good dye, last a LONG time compared to el cheapos.

JustMichael - Just don't research and educate yourself alright? Then you can happily burn at "6x" while the rest of us snicker at you. Sheesh!

Man oh man, I hope everyone understands that burning is a multi-factorial event. However, anyone with real world experience burning cdrs - and not just people talking out the side of their neck - knows that burning speeds are a combination of your hardware/software/media setup. If you have good hardware like a Yamaha or Plextor and have a stable system with happy drivers communicating nicely between your hardware and OS as well as decent software like Nero then you can get away with max speed burning even crappy media like Ritek, CMC or Gigastorage.

Furthermore, Kodak media is top quality media. Did you know that the state of the nation with regards to media is this:

quality media in the last five years (Kodak, Mitsui, Kao, TDK, Taiyo Yuden ...) have been badged and rebadged as time went along without change in the formulation? From 6x compatible to 8x, 12x and beyond? Hell, TDK does away with the change in packaging by saying "All speed compatible" so they don't have to change their wrapper!

Granted, with the super high speed burners available to industry folk running at 24x you need special media that can handle the burning process re: cdrecordable.com - that is a different story as well as with cdrw technology.

Clear?

Conclusion: YES, you can burn beyond 6x ... depending if your hardware/software setup will allow for it ... which is the case for most of us here.

$.35 per cd isn't that hot. it's ok at best. I expect my cdr's to be about $.20 each for decent quality.

You can get cdr's at frys for like $.10-.15 each.

You're missing the point Zero. The reason we're all excited is that these are top quality cd-r's. If we wanted crap, we would go to the source, Fry's. $.35 a cd isn't expensive if its gonna last 5 years plus. And, cheap media won't burn in all drives anyway. If you use Fry's POS cd-r's, don't let us stop you, just don't come cryin when they don't read anymore.

Argh!

People people people!

The only time the Max recording speed applies is when you're talking about CD-RWs!!

When it comes to CD-Rs, just like bill_n_opus mentioned,
if your CD-Burner and Burning Software can surpport it then you can burn beyond the rated speed!!!

I can varify this plenty of times on my Plextor 12/10/32 with cheapo 8X certified CDRs that I can burn at 12X w/o any problems!

If these are certainly verified to be the Kodak Ultima Golds, then this is a great deal.

Hi all,

What are the rules for posting here, I was not able to locate them. If I am a dealer offering a "hot deal" can I post it here or not? If not, I will go back into lurk mode. Thanks!

Hmmm... if your CDR can support it and your software can support it, then you can burn beyond the max speed? I have a plextor 12/10/32A, and was trying to burn with multiple programs at 12x on an 8x Kingston CD... and I get errors everytime... it always gives me errors when it tries to close the CD.

HKS really? Are those cdrs from outpost.com? well, I have the exact same burner and only burn at 12x for audio as well as data cds and not one coaster yet. I have already gone through about 10 cds of those cheap kingston cdrs (50 for $10) and they have been great. In fact, I have never burned one coaster yet w/ the plextor. It is great! I used Nero, Cdrwin, and Discjuggler with no problems.

I just thought I would put in my 0.02. First of all in my opinion, this is a great deal. Kodak cd's are of the highest quality, and although I have not personally used these particular ones, I'm sure they'll burn at any speed given the right hardware setup. I burn 2X Mitsui's that are over 4 years old at 12X everyday. In my opinion, the whole speed rating on cdr's is bogus (at least with high quality media). Anyway, I hope this helps anyone that was undecided. Now let me go get mine.

HKS Supported means only that - supported. Just because your hardware and software supports it doesn't mean you will be guaranteed to burn at max speed. You have a good burner. Fine there. You don't mention your software ... you could be using crap software. You mention Kingston media which is bottom level media and I say this in the nicest way possible. Hell, i'd use it if I got some super cheap ... but only for my own music and that's about it. Just because I can burn with my great setup on Kingston media (Ritek or CMC = crap) doesn't make it good media overall. That's the fallacy that many people on this board make over and over again. Drives me nuts.

As well, you mention "errors when closing session" tells me that you are trying to multisession a cd. Becuase I don't know which program you are using I can't really comment. I would only hope that you aren't trying to overburn a multisession cd and that you have all the checks properly ticked off. Problems with MS cds are usually not the media's fault but the software and your setup. Additionally, I hope you aren't trying to mix modes on your cd as well? That can cause problems here and there.
