200 WOMEN TO BE IMPREGNATED WITH 'CLONED EMBRYOS'

A twenty-first century shock announcement is set to be made at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington on Thursday: Up to 200 women will soon be impregnated with cloned embryos in the world's first attempt to produce a human clone!

The test, planned for November, possibly on a boat in international waters to avoid political interference, will use a technique similar to that developed to produce Dolly the sheep.

Up to 200 couples from several countries, including eight from Britain, were being selected for the cloning project, according to a report planned for publication on Sunday in Europe.

Italian embryologist Severino Antinori -- whose Rome clinic enabled a 62-year-old woman to have a baby in 1994 -- is planning to make the stunning announcement in the Nation's Capital.
Antinori's team for the cloning drills consists of 20 international specialists.

NO AMERICANS IN TEST

No Americans will take part in the test, according to insiders familiar with the cloning plans.


White House sources warned that Antinori will not be permitted to impregnate any of the women within U.S. borders.

The announcement is expected to ignite an explosive debate about the ethics and safety of human cloning.

Ok, so I misread the post 🙂 Anyway, I still say I'll believe it when I see something that might prove this true. My question is similar to Jittos'...why would they impregnate 200? Why not less? It seems like that is an awfully large amount of people...

I cannot pull up any news articles on successful cloned embryos. However, the site says that the cloned embryos are flawed

<< BTW, Jittos, we studied something about cloning in 7th grade last year, and as I recall it is very hard to clone because most of the time it is not successful. So the most we might end up with is maybe 3 or 4, most likely less. >>



who knows how far technology goes by now. they might be able to do it better now. but still, 4-5 identical monkeys is still bad.

and think about those children. let's say there r 10 successful cloning. then those kids would be &quot;twins&quot;, except they arent really. i donno, it'd feel rather sh!tty having so many ppl look like you. not to mention that you r part of an experiment....

Something must be proven to not be a fluke. And in order to do that, consistent results must be statistically shown.

A fact few of you seem to realize is that not all conceptions result in pregnancy. I have no figures with which to back my claims and I'm currently on a 28.8 so I do not care to look for some. A zygote being formed does not guarantee a baby. Chemical and hormone levels in the womb can make the zygote to not even implant itself on a uterus. Compound this with the very detailed and difficult job of resealing a cell membrane in order for the cell to function. Then think about impurities that could get into the cell, or vital organelles that did not survive the procedure. Add to that, the physical trauma on the cell from actually being handled so much. THEN you add the normal factors that result on miscarriage.

Let's not stop at miscarriage. How many pregnancies aren't even noticed because as mentioned above, a zygote could not attach itself to the uterus and was expelled out of the body in the menstrual cycle.

The number used makes sense once you see all that can &quot;go wrong&quot; in natural conception and then add everything else resulting from the experiment.

Dr. Antinori gave a 62 yr old woman a baby. He was on &quot;60 minutes&quot; with her, the husband, and the kid. Do you believe that?
From what i could tell by the show, hes quite a publicity hound.
After this, he will be the most famous doctor in the world.

200 attempts, because there were many failures during the Dolly sheep cloning. This assures at least some feasible embryo's.

I say lets clone up 200 of the current Playboy centerfold. I'd be happy to adopt them all.
