how are the cost of parts in jamaica? Or do you pay $us at newegg and get them shipped to you?

The cost of parts here are ridiculous. I intend to start my own business and offer computer stuff at actually reasonable prices....be the "Newegg" of Jamaica....:D

I buy from Newegg...:D

Well I became partial to Nvidia because of the massive performance increase I got going from X850XT to 8800GTS 320MB...:D

That has little to do with whether it's ATI or Nvidia considering you jumped two generations =P

That is true though but another thing is that my first card was Nvidia...lol...Geforce 4 - MX4000.

Anyway, in terms of performance, how much (in %) is the 4850 ahead of the 9800GTX.

there was a chinese website that bfg linked to for the 4870 reviews. the name escapes me, but they did a good job of comparing a LOT of games with aa and without, lots of cards, too. They came up with the following: 4850 is 4% faster than 9800gtx without AA and 20% faster with 4xAA. Most other sites have shown that the difference with 8xAA is a LOT greater than this, too.

that's a fantastic deal at $120 AR but cheez won't ever see the $40 mir so he's stuck at $160...and much better off spending the extra few $$ for 4850 (195 shipped no rebates right now at newegg).

...and the $200 budget is including the resale of my GTS.

I probably need to rethink everything though. I think I need to upgrade several things. Noya raised a good point about the PSU.

:frown:

dude, if you're selling the 320mb gts you should net $70-90 out of that...putting you dangerously close to 4870 territory...

This is true, my 4850 should be here tomorrow and it'll be replacing my X850XT PE, so thats jumping up what....4 generations? I look forward to that performance jump :D

I'm right with you...I'm looking to get an HD4850 sometime in July. Upgrading from my X850 Pro

Go with a 4850 for under or equal to $200 budget.

Otherwise step up the budget to say about $250 and pickup a 9800GTX+, just so you can have that whopping 1 to 10 FPS over the 4850 and maintain your brand loyalty.
