20 years old.

Okay, so I'm 20 years old and I'm not even halfway done with my AA degree which a lot of my friends are starting to finish. I feel like I've wasted a lot of time working and playing guitar. I didn't care then, but now it's all really starting to catch up with me. I'm starting to notice more and more people I know starting to leave my town, fall in love, etc...and here I am...still dinkin around in junior college as a single guy.

It seemed like just a year ago I was on top of the world, movin at the same pace as everyone else, bringin' home different ladies every week, but I took some time off to make a little bit of money to buy some equipment and a car and I've changed my mind about my career path at the worst possible times.

Everyone tells me it's normal to think this way, but I still feel like everyone is maturing a lot faster and getting way more serious about college and careers than I am. Is it normal to feel this way? Am I really having a 1/4 life crisis?

I'm 19 and lost atm. Right now, I had accomplished my G.E. requirements for graduation at my university (I have 70+ units) and still finding a major without being in an academic hold >.>. The Nursing Department is hard to get in

it is better to change career paths at 20 than 30 or 40 when you have 10+yrs in it. relax, your feelings are more than likely pretty normal.

Words of advice: Don't let other people dictate how you should live your life. Go with the flow. Don't worry about stupid things, you have plenty of time for college. After high school, I pretty much cut off all ties with people I knew in high school.

Geez... Get a grip! You're just 20 years old! I know it sounds trite, but you do have the rest of your life in front of you.

The worst possible time to change your mind about a career is a couple of years after you graduate.

If you're worried about those getting a quicker start, just tell yourself you'll catch up because you plan to outlive them by a year or two.

20 is actually pretty early to get married, so don't worry about it. 30 is pretty much the ideal time to get married.

Don't worry - it happens to most college folks at one time or the other. This is the time to enjoy so at least you won't regret that later in life.
But - the good thing is you are becoming serious about life too - which is part of the growing up experience of college.

You go to parties with 15 year-olds? I don't know what the hell kind of friends you have that invite 15 year-olds to parties, but I suggest you get out of that habit. It's kind of creepy and will not make you feel good. Hang out with more people your age that are in a similar or worse condition; they're out there and in massive quantities.

I have a friend who went to a university to be an engineer, but he flunked out of school in his first year. He worked his butt off at community college and is now able to return almost 2 years later, but he practically has to start over for his engineering degree. I think you're in a much better situation than him; you just don't know what you want to do

So here's my advice: take a bunch of introductory courses to various subjects that you find sort of interesting. Take an acting course, a physics course, a chemistry course, a music course, and a media arts course if you really have no idea at all. That's a pretty good variety

I'm in the same boat, atleast you're in school right now. I'm 19, have 1 sem of college under my belt and wont go back until atleast August. All I do is work, play poker and hang out with my girlfriend. I recently moved to Florida from Iowa to get away from my friends who all think its terrible to have a job and work instead of going to college and living off mom and dad. I have no problem with school, I was in honors classes in high school and was in advanced classes when I was in college, it just doesn't seem right for me right now. You'll find your calling soon enough...

I went through a similar situation. Unfortunately my downfall wasn't the guitar, it was drugs/alcohol. The time that I felt low and alone (in retrospect) was great for me. I pretty much did a 180. Stopped all drug use and started working towards a long-term goal all the while setting small ones and completing them. The sense of completing the small things kept me happy and now feel like I'm quickly approaching where I want to get to. Just sit yourself down, realize what has happened and make an effort to change things. The past has passed so look to the future. Hang in there You aren't alone.
