20" WS LCD for gaming ~$300?

any 20" ws lcds for ~$300 that don't ghost? want 1680x1050 but want to keep it kind of cheap. from personal experience, i can read reviews all day, but i really don't care what the response times is rated at due to the fact that there are numerous ways to get the response rate.

dvi/vga would be nice. will be gamig with bf2 and probably bf2142 when it comes out.

i viewed a benq on newegg, but have never used their lcds, and i really don't want to buy it, have it ghost and then need to return it.....

thanks in advance,

You can't get the 2005FPW new from Dell, but I've seen several used for sale on the forums. Glad I purchased one - best computing purchase I've made in a long time.

This monitor is supposed to be really good, and is recommended often here on Anandtech and elsewhere. It costs $330 at Newegg but you may be able to find a better deal elsewhere.

I like mine a lot. Better than the BenQ FP202W I returned. Fry's has been having good deals on this lately (if there's one around you).

no ghosting when gaming?

the viewsonic VX series monitors typically have very good response times. I personally have 2 VX922's (19 inch 5:4 ratio) and it has a 2ms response and no ghosting. I looked into getting the VX2025 and would have bought it as it is one of the best WS gaming monitors. The problem is 2 WS monitors was just too much desk space, and I needed the dual monitors more than Widescreen, because gaming is important, but dual monitors is alot more productive.

Ghosting is somewhat dependent on the user. I may not see ghosting on a 16ms monitor but you may be able to pick it out easily.

That being said I think most people report little to no ghosting, but I'm not sure since I don't have the monitor

Indeed, I'm not very sensitive to it, and certainly don't notice any.

The VX2025 is awesome. I just bought one from frys for 329.00 after mail in rebate. No ghosting that I can tell.

I also have a 2005fpw. At first I didn't notice ghosting/blurring while playing FPS games. However, after a couple months of use, I really started to notice delays in my shots. I decided to hook up my old Viewsonic 91f+ along side the Dell. From that point, that's when I realized the difference in fluidity between the two. I can easily notice the slight ghosting/blurring with the 2005fpw compared to CRTs, but mostly with fast pace motion, especially with FPS games. With RTS games, it's not quite apparent. For this reason, I use my A91F+ for FPS and anything fast paced, and the 2005FPW for everything else.

I'm still trying to find another LCD that I can go with for a tri-monitor setup; but I can't seem to find consistent reviews for one that's good for gaming and development. I've read SOME good reviews about the NEC LCD1980FXI, but I'm reluctant to spend $500+ on an LCD without seeing it in action first-hand.

Can someone recommend another 19" or 20" LCD (preferably WS) that performs better than the 2005fpw?

Thanks.

office depot often gives a rebate on this monitor, so if there is one near you, this would be a great option. If not, officemax.com has it for $330 shipped.

Does this unit support 16.7m colors? Viewsonic, in thier infinite wisdom, neglects to list color depth as one of the specs. Anyone have any experience with this?

So I bought this monitor yesterday and tested it out. I can still notice the smearing... if anything, it performs just like my Dell 2005FPW.

I cloned my Viewsonic A91F+ with the VX2025WM and still noticed a difference while playing FPS games. I was landing A LOT more shots while watching my CRT than the LCD. The delay in my shots, due to the blurring, was extremely obvious.

So next... I'm gonna try and hunt down the BenQ FP93GX or the Samsung 940BF and see if any of these are any better.

So my verdict... if you have a tough time deciding between the 2005FPW or the VX2025WM... I would go for the Dell simply because

1. It's height adjustable
2. You can easily switch between Analog/Digital and support PIP

Again, I noticed similarities in quality, except the Viewsonic would not maintain the Aspect Ration for lower res... it would stretch the screen... boooo.

you can switch between analog and digital on the viewsonic with one button.

and no it doesnt support internal scaling, but you can use nvidia drivers for that.

I tried the nvidia drivers, and got a message on the screen that kept saying "Out of Range"... which I found really odd.
