It's a 1x (2x w/hacked firmware on some drives). I've burned maybe 100+ discs on my Pioneer with no coasters. Manufactured by Princo.

I've used these for a while now. They are the COmpUSA store packaged ones. I always burn at 1x speed anyway so that doesn't bother me. I got them when it was about $7 for a 10 pack so this is even better. Was going to post this myself but I'll just add on to this one...

any other input on the media ? general consideration seems to be that princo media is bad. I used 4x and had a problem or two, but the 1x media was rumored to be even worse

I've been burning with these since I got my burner....150 discs later, the only bad burns have been my own fault (trying to squeeze too much video on a disc).

I've gotten them to burn at 2x as well. I love 'em.

Bought 4 packs yesterday...going back for more later this week.

I bought some yesterday. I can burn at 2x with them and no coasters yet! They play fine. (even in the Xbox) I have a NEC 2500a. I am thinking about going back and getting some more.

This is tempting, but the 1x seems wicked slow...I think I'll take the risk and check it out.

Thanks!

Thanks!

rpc1.org has hacked firmwares that will allow most drives to burn any 1x media at 2x. I personally did this with Ritek 1x's and had no issues

I've burned about 50 of these at 2X for both data and movie backups, and have not had a single problem.

can u check to see who manufactures these dvdrs?

Princo. DVDIdentifier says they are "1X - (2X)", whatever that means. I assume it means they are 1X, but will burn at 2X in my drive.

I used this type DVD-R before. It burns well at 2X and play on all my old DVDRoms. I bought one more pack yesterday.

Crap the store by me is out. Anyone in the Waukesha, WI area get these and have extras? heh heh.

EDIT: Nevermind, they are subbing in a 15-pack for $7.99.
$.53 cents each instead of $.50 but that's good enough for me.

Just a quick addition for anyone that is going to get in on this. I'm not sure if the 15pk for $7.99 is a national thing or not. The manager said he was sent something that said they were doing this. At the store, none of the employees had any idea that they were selling the 15pk for cheap. In fact there were huge signs on the 15 pks saying 15 DVD-Rs for $14.99 (only $1 per disc).

But they rang up at $7.99.

Only drawback is the 15pk does NOT come in the slim jewel cases. It's basically a stack of 15 DVDs (like you'd get on a spindle but without the spindle) shrink wrapped up. But at $0.53 each, I guess I dn't care if a couple might not work. But they had the hard plastic disc on the top and bottom so there shoudln't be any worry about that.

The 20 packs that I got from CompUSA for $9.99 were only shrink wrapped with the clear plastic disc on each side. No slim jewel cases.

These are the same media as the 50 pack of Starlogics at OM a while ago. I have had problems with these using DVD Copy-Xpress and Opterite 8X burner. (About 2 of 3 are coasters) I had less problems with DVD Shrink/Nero and even less using DVD/Nero with the 811S. But then I got the ND2500a and have not had luck again with these playing in my Sanyo player. They all burn well enoght to play in a Rom though. I now have over 50 of these and need to sell them. Ebay prob.

Anyone had success with NEC 8X? What software are you using?

I'm using a Lite-On 4x burner from Black Thursday last year. Using CloneDVD http://www.elby.de/en/products/clone_dvd to do the ripping, burning, compressing, etc. Haven't had any problems at all except for when the original was a bit scratched up and couldn't be read. Only had 1 coaster so far in about 20-30 DVDs.

Picked up 5 of the 15 packs today so more burning to commence shortly.

I wasn't sure if the 20 packs were in cases or not. THe 10 packs they sell are so I thought the 20s were too. Oh well.

I have NEC 2500a and have no problem with the CompUSA DVD-r's. 1x media but burn as 2x it burns great. Plays on both my Pioneer and Apex DVD player. Using DVDShrink and Nero.
