I love this software and suggest it to everyone! Lifetime updates are free and they come out with them regularly (every 2 - 3 months).

Most likely you'd need a dual layer dvd media or approx 8.x gb of storage for a full feature movie i.e. AC3, DTS, special features etc.

single layer DVD is 4.7GB, dual-layer is 8.5GB. CloneDVD can transcode (shrink) dual layers to fit a single layer, but that causes a loss of quality.

I like dvdfab also, but AnyDVD does one thing it doesn't do well, or at least no version I have handy: HD DVDs.

AnyDVD HD epically H4x0r5 Hollywood and Sony's DRM bastard child!

Me hugs my 750GB Blu-ray jukebox, which is for better or worse only good for storing 20 or so movies.

Google up aacskeys and BackupHDDVD, two free utilities that do the job. aacskeys is a command-line prog that will give you the Volume Key for whatever disc is in the drive (you need to dig up some v4 or v5 AACS keys to cover the full HDDVD library), and BackupHDDVD has a nice GUI front-end to rip the EVOs once you have the Volume Key. It take a little bit of reading to sort it all out, but it's worth it to save 80 bucks, IMHO.

this software is awesome, i bought the whole bundle over a year ago and love it
if you ever lose the keys or program they'll email you the keys.. talk about awesome customer service!

[Does anything stack up to this anymore? I stopped looking since I started using this.

Sure...when its free...like it is

Use DVD Shrink to read the DVD (Shrink is free) and use it to strip the extra stuff off like foreign languages, director and actor interviews, etc. and select just the movie file to be saved.

Then use the Slysoft (CloneDVD) to burn the movie onto a single layer disc, stripping that extra junk out with Shrink will lessen or eliminate any loss of picture quality in a movie, that extra junk that a person doesn't really need (or want) usually takes up about 1/3 of the size of the files on a dual layer disk movie.

DVD Shrink and CloneDVD work well together also, from what I hear. 'wink wink'

I've used several DVD ripping programs and am currently happy with a combination of DVD Shrink and ImgBurn. At one time I was using DVD Shrink + Nero, but I refuse to use anything past Nero v6 and DVD Shrink does a wonderful job of making an .ISO that I can burn using ImgBurn. The process involves a couple of extra clicks vs. the Nero integration, but works excellently and I don't have to worry about system bloat. 🙂

Several months ago, it seemed like DVD Shrink was having a bit of trouble removing the copy protection from certain discs so I began experimenting with other software such as AnyDVD, DVDFab, 1Click DVD Copy, Clone DVD, etc. but I recently formatted and tried going back to DVD Shrink with success. Not a single problem with recent movies such as Indiana Jones 4, 88 Minutes, etc. which surprised me since I was under the impression that DVD Shrink is no longer updated. Maybe they just aren't bothering with the cost to protect DVDs anymore since it's inevitable that people will make the jump to Blu-Ray...I'm just guessing that's where the focus is now, even though the vast majority of people still use and watch standard DVDs.

This is the biggest part of this deal I think. I'm glad I picked up my copy of AnyDVD HD a few weeks ago. If you purchase any point after this year, you WILL NOT get free upgrades. So BUY NOW for free upgrades for life.

Love the software. Especially the 1:1 iso's of BR's and HDDVD's. Sure they're 25gigs, but when you can buy a 1tb drive for less than $100 nowadays, having a drive to hold hddvd and br images is handy. Especially if you fear that you won't be able to find any HDDVD disc players in a year or two.
