20 kids die after eating school lunch in India

That's a bitch. Kind of suspicious imo. I wouldn't expect pesticide residue to be that heavy where it would kill people after cooking. I'd guess it was either intentional poisoning, or gross misapplication of pesticide.

My co worker's cousin just passed away after swimming in some Indian river.

Went from perfectly healthy to dead in a week.

Insecticide-laced rice not washed

A preliminary investigation says that the food had traces of an organo-phosphate used as an insecticide on rice and wheat crops. The food grains were not washed properly before cooking. Organo-phosphorus pesticides target the nervous system, respiratory tract and cardiovascular system. It leads to respiratory, myocardial and neuromuscular transmission impairment. In moderate cases, it can lead to nausea, salivation, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, sweating and hypertension. In severe cases, it can cause non-reactive pupils, respiratory depression, pulmonary edema, convulsions, coma, cardiac ischaemia, cardiac dysrhythmias, and hyperglycaemia.
Organophosphates, such as the insecticides referenced above, include the nerve agents Americans reference as GB and VX. Then again, all nerve gas is, is bug spray for people.

Sympathy for the parents of the Indian children. Its not a good way to die.

But accidents happen. For example:
March 13, 1968, an F4 Phantom had a problem closing a valve during an open air test at the Dugway Proving Ground that resulted in the escape of about 20 pounds of VX. About 30 miles away, in Skull Valley several thousand sheep died. For 30 years, the US Army denied responsibility.

Nothing about India surprises me. This is the same places that leaves bodies rotting in the rivers, has rats running wild and numerous other things

yeah this is really strange - seems like they're adding ridiculous amounts of (probably expensive) pesticide.

maybe this rice was treated seed meant for planting?

Those poor kids and their families 🙁

India has a bad history with pesticides, wonder if that's why the principle reportedly fled.

Also heard on the radio that someone there had raised concern about a new cooking oil before this happened.
