Imation is one of the absolute worst of the lot at not fulfilling rebates. I have rebates dating back to the end of 1999 which, even with CompUSA's assistance, I have never been able to get. I have received some, but no other manufacturer has screwed me out of more rebates than Imation has. When we can regularly get CD-R disks for around a quarter at Best Buy, CompUSA and Office MAX on their regular promotions, I for one am not willing to take a chance again on Imation.

You guys must have real bad luck or something. I've gotten all my rebates back from Imation. I got about 10 checks from the past year and still going.

I have received about 12 Imation rabates since last fall, almost all for CompUSA purchases, and 9 rebates were for CD-Rs. I had difficulty with only 3 of these rebates, one because Best Buy couldn't find the rebate form in the store and kept mailing me the wrong form, another because Imation insisted that I provide a UPC even though the package didn't have one (I e-mailed them scans of the package from all six sides), and the last problem was due to Staples or the post office mailing the rebate check to somebody else.

I was told long ago to glue all UPCs and proofs of purchase to a piece of paper, and lightly glue or tape that paper and the receipt to the rebate form. Also write my name and address and the rebate address and department number on each piece. The dept. no. is more important than the rebate address.

me neither. every time compusa has one of those 5 packs for free, i go get a pack. all my rebates have come in (about 5 or 6 so far)

what's wrong with 4x? It's overspeed for me anyways. I have a 2x

DealSeer...

Outpost.Com took down this offer (was told this 5-pack is being "re-packaged"). Their item # can't be found, and the rebate link is gone too. (BTW, we couldn't find this rebate on Imation's site.)

Call Outpost's customer service. They're aware of the missing rebate link and will mail you a rebate form (sad waste of their time):

Sales and Customer Service -

(Within U.S.): 1-877-OUTPOST (1-877-688-7678) or 1-800-856-9800

*Sigh* This deal comes from techbargains. Anyways, the cdr's are of the cheap one, manufactured by Taiyo Yuden. The rebate is handled by another company, the one that also does the rebates for Lexmark, Iomega, etc.

I have a question on how to best assure full payment on this. Should I send a separate envelope and copy of the invoice/certificate for each $5 rebate, or can I just send one invoice/certificate and the 4 UPC labels in one shot? Does anyone have previous experience with these folks on this?

P.S. I ordered the CDRs on a Friday and they arrived next day "Saturday Delivery" from Outpost. I am very impressed, the free shipping must have cost them a bundle.

I just called the number on the rebate form. They said all four rebate requests may be sent in the same envelope, but to include four copies of the rebate coupon, four copies of your sales receipt, and four UPC codes (of course). They also said you sould write "4 rebate offers enclosed" on the envelope.

I also have had very bad experience with Imation Rebate. I have sent around 10-12 Imation Rebates in the past one and half year and have gotten only 2 or 3 without any initiative on my side.

For ALL the rest, I had to call their rebate center (in many cases multiple times) and even then I have not yet received 3-4 checks.

I am also not very pleased with the quality of Imation CD-Rs. Of all the CD-R I have ever used, Imation ones are the only ones that have failed on writing, that too at least 7-8 of them.

Just for the record Taiyo Yuden along with TDK makes the best cyanine dye CDR's. They aren't crappy. They'll only last you about 100 years, not the 150 years Pthalocyanine lasts. Boohoo. But they will work on more CD players, especially older ones.

psxjunky:

What make of Imation CD-Rs did you get? At least 3 different companies make their CD-Rs, mostly CMC Magnetics (made in Taiwan, shiney, narrow tape on box), especially for the 5-packs. Many of the 10-packs are made in Japan (Taiyo Yuden). Wide tape or dull tape means made in Japan or USA (Ricoh).
