Saw it on Netflix last night. Really great documentary. If you're a music lover you won't want to miss it. Focusing as it does on the lives and careers of well-known (but usually not famous) background singers it's unavoidably mo-town focused, but there are some great cameos and interviews that spread out a little bit from that center.

Highly recommended.

Another good movie along the same subject is Standing in the Shadows of Motown. It is about the studio musicians that basically are behind almost all of the early great Motown songs of that era.

Watched it on Netflix. Great stuff, nominated for an Oscar. Especially liked the segment on Merry Clayton, the co-lead singer on the Stones "Gimme Shelter", one of my favorite tunes.

I agree 1000%. When they were interviewing Mick Jagger, and they had the isolated track of just her doing the "Raaaaape and muuuuuurrrdaa....." hook, I got chills down my spine. Wow, what a powerful voice.

Not to mention the story behind it, how they rousted her out of bed, how she came in with curlers in her hair..... I love hearing the story behind the story.

Yeah, that was a moment man. A lot of times a single track like that doesn't sound very polished, and you could definitely tell this was pre-mix, but damn she sounded amazing.
