from what i understand the charge in the monitor gets too big, but does the snap (that resets the screen) mean the screen might soon die, or even burst???

you mean like and colors go all wavy and ranbowey? thats it deguassing (demagnetising) the screen. there is absolutely no chance of it bursting. im not sure why it would do it so often on its own, though.

Some monitors actually do the degauss when they start up
 
its not that. looks like when you turn a tv off, but when its on. makes a nice snap/pop and comes right back on. doesnt happen too often.

lcd i have had, but this is what i got for the moment.

Theres a chance that is going bad but its not going to explode. Worst case scenario is it just doesn't come on one day. You're not risking life or limb by using it.
