I'm a 20 year old guy. I wanted to date a 17 year old girl (18 in February). The father said "no." What are your opinions of this (especially, I want the old male opinions of this)?

that age difference is fine, but father's are very protective of their daughters. she is prolly still in HS, right?

Depends on the people involved.
Do you have a lot in common with her, do you like some of the same things, can you relate to one another?
Unless you really like this person I'd probably stay away if there are going to be issues.

Just wait until you have a 17 year old daughter... then you'll understand.

My thoughts on that.... Ok, maybe I can understand the protectivity involved, but I don't understand why he won't at least meet me first, before damning us! Even if he meets me, without having any intention of saying yes, that's still a big respect thing.
Well, father knows best. My daughter will be 17 in just 7 more years. I'll be dispensing the same answers at that time if a 20 y.o. wants to date her.The father said "no."

I think that's the crux of it. What did the dad say no to ?Originally posted by: dolph

i don't think any father likes the idea of his 17 year old daughter dating, period.

Why can't you find anyone your own age?

Did the father explain that the age difference was the only reason ? Because if I had an 18-year old daughter, I'd rather she date a 20+ year old than an 18 year old. At least they are somewhat more mature. And so long as the dude doesn't look like the fratboy-gimme-some type.
